Two out of three ain't bad
Two out of three ain't bad
Firstly a massive well done to everyone concerned at the Bluebirds for achieving this wonderful promotion.
In 1972 we lost our football league status.
In 1973 we lost our national independence to the EU.
In 1974 we lost our Lancashire identity status.
Now thanks to the tremendous efforts of management, players and supporters at Barrow we have achieved the second of three reversals of the above.
I will settle for that.

You don't share Evatt's "doing OK isn't good enough" - need to excel by achieving all three of your ambitions!
Barrow is still very much a part of historic Lancashire. Prior to 1974, the same was true but Barrow had County Borough status, having the same powers and control as both a county and a borough. Since the advent of Cumbria, a large proportion of money, decisions and power have moved away from the town, mainly towards Carlisle. As a lower tier authority, the borough now has only a small share of money, responsibilities and decisions.
The possibility of further reorganisation of 'Cumbria' into two unitary authorities* under a single elected mayor has been mooted. If so, Barrow will need to play a full part in planning for this to ensure it receives its share of the cake.
[* an authority with the powers of both County and District - Blackpool and Blackburn with Darwen are examples in the north-west, not being under the control of Lancashire County Council]

This forum is not about Cumbria, Lancashire, the EU or independence. It’s about Barrow AFC. If you wish to discuss politics I politely suggest that you go somewhere else ie do one !
