Another fake story about a better candidate than Evatt whom Bolton could not afford in a month of Sundays. The crap being churned out in the local media to big up Bolton's so called purchasing power is quite impressive. But I dont think it fools many people outside of Bolton or who's name is not Brian.

How can it be a done deal if the contract isn't agreed? It's a bit self-contradictory.

If things were at stage then an offer would had have finally been formally accepted by the club and I think both parties (particularly Bolton) would be saying so openly. As they this hasn't happened it seems we are still pretty much where we were.

Looking more and more like his agent is behind this and is feeding lazy so called journalists to put up his name to link to any vacancy that comes up in an effort to get his client's profile in front of the public and other clubs.
Stay with us Ian and do your stuff again next year and then you can sack your agent and let your continued success do the talking. :scarf:

Whilst I agree on the agent is the one doing all the leg work (and that’s his job we’re just not really used to it yet) if Evatt wants to stay he could just come out with Paul Hornby and make a statement to that effect........

If Evatt doesn't want the job he needs to say so, I appreciate that he can't say this every time a job is vacant. He is obviously interested otherwise there would be little point in these negotiations with Bolton. Anyone who believes Bolton haven't talked to his agent and he is favourable is naive

Sorry let me re-word that, Bolton News football writer, reading his articles on this, talking about contract wrangles, but “things finally moving”, ...to be honest, its probably nothing more than we have all seen from earlier today.
"To achieve anything and to get to the Football League, we have to expect to win every game. I've got to get everyone believing that we can, and I will work hard to embed that mentality into the players, the town, the board and whoever else” Ian Evatt.

Not really realistic unless he is desperate. A bit like getting Arsene Wenger to admit that a penalty given against Arsenal was correct or that a sending off was valid. Although I have to admit that if you asked Evatt's mentor Ian Holloway those questions you'd probably get a straight answer. But Holloways honesty whilst loved by many is also considered misplaced by many others who would rather he say nothing and not risk getting into trouble.

In Evatts current position saying nothing is what you do. Even if he is personally committed to going to Bolton he needs to leave a remain option on the table in case negotiations break down or something happens that requires him to stay. You let your agent earn his commission, to share in your glory if it works out and take the blame if it doesn't.

There is a tactic that the BAFC board could adopt if it were convinced the relationship with IE was so far gone that he wasn't coming back under any circumstances. The "nuclear" option would be to force Evatt into the open and declare his intentions by simply cutting off contact with Bolton perhaps even quoting specific areas of dispute as to why this has been done. It would probably not be that difficult to produce what at face value at least would be a compelling critique of Bolton's current capabilities and deficiencies whilst at the same time dwelling on their predatory behaviour. Effectively this would undermine the negotiating process but it would not change the legal position.

In those circumstances Evatt would have to either walk or stay. But even if he stayed the relationship with the Board would probably be beyond repair. Which is why they remain sat at the negotiating table.

Essentially it involves getting Evatt in and making use of his flair for putting together a functioning team without paying any fees or paying significant salaries. That is what he has done at Barrow. His task in the first year is to stabilise the team - nothing more nothing less. The Barrocelona stuff would come later.

The team he will put together at Bolton will in terms of quality and depth I would guess look very much like Barrows squad over the last 12 months. If you think that BAFC could survive a season in L2 with last seasons NL squad then that gives you a good idea of what an Evatt side might be capable of at Bolton next season. If he can survive that and beat the embargo he will possibly then be trusted with a (small) pot of gold.

Its actually pretty risky stuff because things can happen in the next 12 months that IE cant foresee and would be powerless to do anything about. He'll end up putting his trust in people he doesn't know and has no previous knowledge of. And he will essentially be repeating the experience of the last two years which is the bit that perplexes me - the fact that he seems to be wedded to the idea of reinvention and repetition after only two years in management when he could've used the next 12 months at BAFC to explore and develop further without significant damage to his reputation.
You’ve said it is simple, obvious and straight-forward, yet your post consists of 3 paragraphs. Sometimes, less is more, Suffolk Blue.

What if IE is playing along and dragging things out in order to upset our L2 rivals?

That's what someone with integrity and proffesionalism would do.
Reminds me of a Manager used to say I am like a stick of rock I have VSEL through me.
Came in on Monday morning asked where he was, oh he left working for a competitor.
The way he is playing this is showing disrespect to our club and supporters but then he does admire Ferguson

Not much more than we have seen in the last 11 days when they started writing about it and the Bolton twerp started telling us it would all be completed in next to no time!
