Can’t believe some of the posts which are scathing of Ian Evatt. He got us promotion after 48 years and after that it was alway odds on he would be liable to go to a bigger club, although he has not gone yet. I know this is football and it can be devious and messy but the bulk of the unrest would appear to be caused by Bolton trying to get him on the cheap. If they meet the conditions then he goes, if he wants to, it as simple as that. Good luck to him and eternal thanks to him for what he has done for us. I would have preferred him to stay and stabilise us before he left but such is life.
I think some of the critics should remember similar actions on our part when we have helped ourselves to players from the likes of Workington without too many scruples.

Yes, we always knew he would go to a bigger club but I never expected him to leave for a club in the same division, particularly one under such restrictions re the paying of transfer fees. Also, he's left Barrow at a very bad time not only without a manager but, as a manager given total control by the board, also without players he was supposedly ready to recruit. I don't wish him any ill but how he gets on after leaving Barrow is, as far as I'm concerned, irrelevent.

He's gone now-that's the end of it. I don't wish him any ill but how he gets on after leaving Barrow is, as far as I'm concerned, irrelevant. I personally don't wish ill on him or Bolton but, if that's the way you choose to play the game well, you are better forgotten about and Barrow AFC remembered as a club that clawed its way back after 48 long years in the wilderness.
Evatt will be remembered but, not revered in the way he could and should have been.

After listening to all these Bolton supporters I’m starting to feel like I know more about their history than I do about ours.

As many others have said, it’s not the leaving, it’s what looks like all the lies and deceit that has gone on. It’s like he was reading off a script but in reality plotting his next move, made even worse as I now firmly believe there was more to that “handshake”. As dodgy as Haythornthwaite undoubtedly is it looks like he was bettered by the dodgier person.

Well at least the Fylde episode did enable us to achieve one thing. That was to extend Evatts contract and tighten compensation clauses. If he had gone then I cant begin to tell you how bad that would've felt. As it is if the compensation that we are now getting is as reported and knowing what I now think I know, then I can certainly live with it. And as I suggested earlier getting that amount of money for someone who is clearly determined to leave you would be considered a "good" business outcome by an impartial observer.

Its a strange world when you offer belated thanks for the actions of Dave Haythornthwaite whilst downgrading those of Ian Evatt but that's life. With the best will in the world you wont be able to explain this reassessment of Evatt to a Bolton supporter without it making you seem petty. You have to sample the Evatt experience and go with it to be able to understand how disappointed you might ultimately feel. Disappointment borne of success is not something that generally speaking happens.
