Ken Anderson was borrowing money from Eddie Davies in secret to keep club afloat. This money was what Ken himself had promised to invest when he took over but instead secretly borrowed it from Eddie playing on his love for the club. When Eddie Davies sadly and suddenly died his trust had to act on his behalf and rightly wanted it repaid. Part of the admin process was coming to an agreement over that money and some of the land near the stadium was used as security.pie_on_a_barmjoe wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 6:21 pmThat isn't correct. In December 2019 after the takeover Bolton's administrators stated that there club still owed the Davies family £11 million. So that is at least £11 million Eddie Davies didn't write off

So they had 3 sham interviews with people they never ever had any intention of employing "Nice publicity stunt" hopefully the deal will get finalized tomorrow so we can crack on
Just my opinion

So what? As long as he leaves the club in a better position than it was when he took over.Jonty wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 6:37 pmYou buy into the vision as fans, as Bolton fans will when he reels off his now well polished interviews. I don't know why some of you lot are so bitter about it.
We've lost successful managers in the past when Rioch went to Arsenal and Allardyce went to Newcastle, it happens.

Re: Ian Evatt
But it happens all the time in football. Bruce Rioch presided over our greatest period in the modern era. From league one to premiership - cup upsets Wembley the lot. After the play off win to get into the premiership, 30,000 Bolton fans packed the town centre and cheered the team and Bruce on. Bruce talked about his pride and how much he loved the place. Next day he was down the M1 to talk to Arsenal. Bolton fans still chanted his name for years to come. When Big Sam who took us to our highest point in modern football history and into Europe twice went he was not disliked by most Bolton fans. In fact most felt the board had failed to back him. Sam has told us he’d retire at the club, but things change. Of course a few take it badly and whatever but it’s just peoples jobs at the end of the day.Jonty wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 6:37 pmYou buy into the vision as fans, as Bolton fans will when he reels off his now well polished interviews. It’s not entirely binary though is it? You can love where you work or the club you are at but still want to take career steps.
I’ve had lots of jobs I loved doing every single day but when a better opportunity came up (or one I perceived as better) I’d consider it. Didn’t mean I didn’t love my current job. Like Eddie Howe left Bournemouth to go to Burnley cos he thought it was better chance for him, he was wrong and it didn’t work out and he went back. But it didn’t make him disloyal. Ultimately football managers and players are just people.
He could have achieved success on the park with us, we are a small club, but that is not a barrier to success. One season with us would have kept fans on board and he would have had all the well wishes for a move higher up the ladder.
And you are right, good managers tend to have burning ambitions so if IE is good, he will almost certainly move upwards again. Just football to us, but his career to him.

Re: Ian Evatt
Acknowledging that there is little to no loyalty when it comes to managers and players (no point in arguing that it is otherwise) aside, I still feel some disappointment with the lack of some holding statement from the board. There are dozens of pages of people arguing between themselves as to whether or not our manager is having talks with another club. When it became such a widely discussed matter, days ago, I think there should have been something more open from the club. Not an update blow by blow, not an announcement before anything can be announced, but a confirmation of the matter in hand:
"Ian is in talks with another club. We don't want him to go, but he is in talks. We will announce something when it has been resolved one way or another."
Leaving it to assumption and rumour is a little poor in my opinion.

You surely don't think he's made the decision purely on the basis of what league Bolton are in next season?walney rock wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 6:47 pmTbh No one is bitter, it's more disappointment that he's chosen to take a side step rather than move up!
He's joining a club that is light years ahead in terms of size and infrastructure.
At this stage of his career he's not going to get a much bigger job.
That's no disrespect to Barrow either.

Re: Ian Evatt
You're correct of course but that doesn't mean we have to like it. I, and I believe most Barrow fans, would have waved Ian Evatt on his way if he had joined a club in a higher league after next season but only a couple of weeks ago he was spouting about not being satisfied to exist in Division 2 but wanting to make Barrow contenders while almost certainly in negotiations to leave the club. The good points you make are exactly why, although I still enjoy watching football, I long ago lost the love I once had for the game. When it changed from being primarily a sport with a business background to a business with a bit of sport attached was when it lost me emotionally. I'm old enough to be from an era when a team like Northampton Town could lead the top division, where a club like Ipswich Town could be the most powerful team in the country and where a non-league team like Norwich could beat Manchester United and reach the semi-final of the FA Cup. That's the time I loved football and not when teams outside of the huge cities will always be second class citizens. I now enjoy watching good football am while I hope the teams I follow play well and do well I'm certainly not devestated when they are not successful in the way I used to be.boltonsorry wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 6:44 pmBut it happens all the time in football. Re: Ian Evatt
No doubt, you have premier league facilities, but the bigger job / bigger stadium, doesn't mean he has a better chance of success on the playing field, a fact fans of many ex-league clubs floundering in non league will tell you.WATOAOW wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 6:59 pmYou surely don't think he's made the decision purely on the basis of what league Bolton are in next season?walney rock wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 6:47 pmTbh No one is bitter, it's more disappointment that he's chosen to take a side step rather than move up!

Nor sure any club has ever put out a statement of that kind, have they? Especially not if they are in the middle of intense negotiations.Bigfathoss wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 6:56 pm Acknowledging that there is little to no loyalty when it comes to managers and players (no point in arguing that it is otherwise) aside, I still feel some disappointment with the lack of some holding statement from the board. Re: Ian Evatt
Bolton's infrastructure is of lower standard than it was. When Eddie Davies was struggling to pay the bills he sold the club's training ground to Wigan Athletic. Bolton's first team now train at the more primitive facility that their youth team used to use.WATOAOW wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 6:59 pmYou surely don't think he's made the decision purely on the basis of what league Bolton are in next season?walney rock wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 6:47 pmTbh No one is bitter, it's more disappointment that he's chosen to take a side step rather than move up!

Evatt won't be using the state of the art training facility Sam Allardyce had, Wigan Athletic's players two divisions above them now use it.Bolton are now a 4th tier club with a lower divisions training ground

Agreed. Deluded if you think the board are going to comment on anything during intense negotiations. Nobody wanted him to go but We all know compensation would need to be paid and we trust the board have done the right thing and have got the best possible deal for the club.Statement from the club tomorrow in all probabilityMoribund wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 7:18 pmNor sure any club has ever put out a statement of that kind, have they?
