We've never had a debt of £200M or anywhere near that.

The previous owner Eddie Davies wrote off the money he invested, as was always his intention.

That isn't correct.In December 2019 after the takeover Bolton's administrators stated that the club still owed the Davies family £11 million. So that is at least £11 million Eddie Davies didn't write off

Even after he wrote off the 186 million they kept going back for more numerous times once notoriously with him on his death bed and then even when he was gone they started tapping up the trust he left behind who then wrote of more money when FV.s were pleading poverty that their deal wouldn't go thru if they didn't write off a multi-million-pound sum.

I understand that this has caused major problems for both the Davis family and the Eddie Davis Trust in that the Isle of Man Government is now investigating them over wether the various write-offs could be seen as a way of avoiding the tax that they owe there where they now live.

No one can begrudge anyone moving on and bettering themselves but the way it's been done, it hasn't covered Ian Evatt in glory. Difficult for him I guess to openly say he was looking to move on in that recent interview as we're not sure how progressed things were then, but when you combine that with what happened with Fylde last season it makes you wonder. Loyalty in the modern game is gone but no questioning his commitment to what he did here and what he's achieved in two years.
I thought he'd have given it another 6 months at least to carry on and make a further name for himself but I guess the money was too good to turn down and on the flip side, a bad few months in the league with Barrow and he'd be out of contention for bigger jobs and maybe even under pressure with us. Loyalty goes both ways and it can be a short career.

I guess think back to when we got Phil Wilson from Lancaster who were above us in the league at the time, and Edmondson from Workington. We were a bigger club than them and it was a step up for both regardless of league position. Bolton is a big club and probably the only one at the same level that Evatt would have left us for. If it was a league 1 side I don't think anyone would argue with him leaving.

On the plus side we have a good young team, momentum, good owners and £250k in the bank. Thanks for your achievements Ian probably no one really expected it or this to happen. It's a shame he probably wont be remembered as fondly as he might've been but we move on. The next appointment probably wont be everyone's choice I remember Evatt certainly wasn't, but important that the fans and board back him.

Tbh No one is bitter, it's more disappointment that he's chosen to take a side step rather than move up!

You surely don't think he's made the decision purely on the basis of what league Bolton are in next season?

He's joining a club that is light years ahead in terms of size and infrastructure.

At this stage of his career he's not going to get a much bigger job.

That's no disrespect to Barrow either.

No not right now he isn't. But 12 months on having led Barrow to the playoffs he.d have been looking at the top half of the championship on 5 times the wages that Bolton are paying him

We will never know who the other bidders were but the deal was a complex one due to the hotel being involved and two different administrators being appointed for the FC and Hotel FV needed the hotel as part of their plan to make us sustainable once the FC administration made FV the preferred bidder they were locked in.

KA rightly or wrongly would not relent on what he was owed and it was obvious that FV did not have lots of money or would not complete without the hotel basically the club was hours from going bust and KA knowing that EDT and FV would not let the club die stuck to his guns which meant both EDT and FV took the hit

Bolton are at best a mid to lower championship side but we just could not stop the slide and if it doesn’t stop we will be NL at the moment we are as good as where we are yes we are too big a club for league 2 however we have to earn the right to get out of it yes we will be favourites to beat Barrow but doesn’t mean we will nor anybody else
