Agree. When we appointed Evatt we were totally desperate and didn't ask too many questions about his attitude or ability - though to Andrew Casson's credit he probably did.

The second thing we underplay regarding Evatt was Atherton. Despite the God like figure that Evatt impressed us all with during his time, football management these days come in teams and I always felt that Evatt's ability to talk the walk sometimes cast Athertons role into the shadows. The AM will probably spend as much if not more time with the players as the Manager and can be more tuned to the players immediate physical and mental states than the gaffer himself. Atherton had to go with Evatt. He was too valuable not to.

So the appointment of Kelly is quite crucial in my view. The guy has got Assistant Manager written all over his CV and the twinning of him with a young ambitious manager changes my evaluation of the appointment significantly.

Interesting view from Ormerod...
Certainly is interesting especially his comments about DD.

Evatt was appointed fairly after being judged the best for the job after interviewing and rating all the applicants. The best cream rose to the top for the job, not a one horse race. :scarf: :scarf: :skill:

And that from a man who knows him well.......
I don't think its an unreasonable to question why we've (apparently) picked out Dunn without seeing what others may have to offer?
"To achieve anything and to get to the Football League, we have to expect to win every game. I've got to get everyone believing that we can, and I will work hard to embed that mentality into the players, the town, the board and whoever else” Ian Evatt.

And he screwed little old Chorley for £250,000 when he was manager. Thank god it's not him the [SwearFilter] crook!.
But he is his friend and partner in the business, GT. If I was looking for a manager, I certainly wouldn't be hiring him.
Good point Russell !

Well if he’s the person the board have chosen to take the club on how about we give them the benefit and just get behind their choice instead of ripping him apart on here before he’s even stepped in the dugout for the first time?

The board haven’t exactly done a bad job so far have they?

A list of applicants sure would have plenty. List to be selected interviewed, then from this your short list. Say final three. At least this way you get to know your ALL your interested applicants and how they propose to work.
We went this one way appointment with mickey moore and look what happened, the Cassons did at least learn from this with interviews then appointed IE.
Yes i appreciate its a time saver for the board on interview process, I sincerely hope its proved the right way for its surely the most important decision the board will have to make now we are back in league. :scarf: :scarf: :scarf:
There was a list of around 40 applicants for the role and i believe there were a few informal chats which occurred with some of the candidates, including as people have mentioned an ex England manager...but this was the ex England woman's manager Hope Powell who was said to have hugely impressed.
Dunn is clearly the man they've gone for and as has been mentioned everyone starts somewhere (ignoring his time at Oldham). Our BOD are no mugs these days and have shown themselves to be shrewd operators and i have 100% trust in their decision onwards and upwards

When did these informal chats take place? Hornby said on RC the day Evatt joined Bolton that we had one target only.......

Heard a lot of good things about Dunn, he's seems well respected in the game. Sure he'll be an asset to the club and hope he is given time to settle in. We're in a much more competitive league. I'd be more than happy if we consolidate for at least a couple of seasons. He's got the bones of a good squad and you'd think good connections to strengthen. Exciting times.
How does it make you feel to know that you voted for this?

Don't know an exact date but think you would have to be pretty naive to think the BOD weren't planning the second they knew Evatt was going. The same applies with Dunn, he was the only target but doesn't mean to say other people weren't spoken to as who was to say he would agree to take over?

Interesting view from Ormerod...

Having been in hospitality a couple of times at Bloomfield
Road this year I can categorically state Brett Ormerod is easily the simplest sportsman I’ve ever heard talk and would make kell brook sound like Martin Luther king. I just wouldn’t taken much he said as concrete.

As for the dunny having other interest this club will soon have other interests and having a north west based, well connected rich business man potentially waiting in the wings with Barrow A.F.C. etched on his heart could be just what we need. Every cloud and let’s just wait and see hey.

All Ormerod has said is that he's unsure Dunn would be in for the Barrow job - has cast no doubt on his ability at all.

"My old mate David Dunn is among the favourites for the vacant Barrow job but I’m not too sure about that one."....I cant weigh up what Ormerod is driving at with this statement!.
Anyway-it might not be David Dunn yet.

As in he's not sure that the rumour is true. Not sure how you've made the leap that he doubts his ability.

No, you misunderstand. I was not implying that at all.
