Hi Barrow fans I’ve just registered on your forum just want to say congratulations to you all in getting back to the FL I’ve being following your results in recent seasons and find I’ve developed a soft spot for your club, I’m a born and bred Crystal Palace fan since 1967 tho I now live in Norfolk but still go to the occasional match at Selhurst, I was looking in the record books and it turns out that our clubs have only met on seven occasions the last one being September 1967 a league cup tie at Holker Street which Barrow won 1-0! I was wondering if there are any fans on the forum who were there? Thanks

I was at the game though do not recall too much about it. Ten years old, a night match, a big crowd in and a Barrow victory. Magic.

Thank you for the congratulations and yes I was at the game as a 14 year old and my only memories where the size of the crowd as mentioned above and the win. Hope you get chance to watch us this coming season and best wishes.

I was also at that match. I was 22 years old and don't remember much about the match other than Johnny Byrne was playing for Palace who were in Division 2 at the time so Barrow were only a division lower with our best ever team.

Yes I was at that match. I remember it was a good game. I am pleased you did not mention the earlier match about 1959 which I believe Palace won 9-0!

Yep, I was there, though again I don't recall much about it (I was 10), other than the euphoria of beating a side from a higher league. I do remember that the Palace goalkeeper was John Jackson, who made 364 appearances for Palace over nine years, including 222 consecutive appearances in that time (thanks Wikipedia).

Thanks for the good wishes. I, too, was at that game but, like the others, don't particularly recall much about it. Perhaps because, by then, we were getting used to being competitive at that level - First Division Southampton and Leicester in the FA Cup around the same time - the games just kept coming.
Nice to see Mr Hodgson has kept Palace well-placed for another season but you'll need to start grooming a replacement - he can't go on forever!

1967 was 3 years before the milkman got the twinkle in his eye for me Palace fella, but hello. I remember the very late 70s/early 80s and Vince Hilaire, the Clive Allen saga, Venables, all that stuff. Memory not so great anymore.

Yes, I was there as a teenager with my friends behind the goal in the Holker Street end. My main memory is a fantastic point blank save from Budgie Byrne by our great keeper Fred Else. I can still visualise it now after all the years. In a way it was out of character for Fred because he was such a good positional player and invariably was stood behind the shot or header when it came in.

Welcome, Palace Fan. I was at that 1967 match, just 11 years old but I remember it really quite well. I have to say Barrow purred that night like a well-oiled machine. We had just come up from the old 4th and hadn't started off brilliantly in the 3rd flight. But we were magnificent that night. I am confident that Palace, who were very near the top of the 2nd, are the loftiest placed team we have ever beaten in a fully competitive match (certainly post-war anyway). The irony is that despite playing so well the only goal from our highly skilled striker, Jimmy Mulholland, was a scuffed effort!
