Sad to see him go had a great season but guess at 29 he is maximising his earnings on the season he had for us. No guarantee that he would have done the same in league 2 with or without IE. When he has tried it before his stats do not look that good.

Like has been said a 3 year deal and nearer home will have done it.
Do not think his move has anything to do with I.E as he is plowing ahead and signing players and in all honesty will be looking for a better player than Rooney.
Last season was Rooneys best season. Who is to say he would step up to the next level.

Rooney lives in Liverpool. Not difficult to travel to Stockport, but equally not that far to Hopwood Hal either. A 3 year contract on a decent wedge (probably), with the opportunity to do his badges isn't a bad thing from his perspective. I do wonder what drives some players in the lower leagues though. Maybe the younger ones still believe they can do a Vardy, but dosh and relative security must be a major consideration for most of the older ones. Journeymen. Sad to see him go though; really thought he could play, and that he would by no means be out of his depth in L2

Be saving plenty of travel time for home games too.
Who knows Stockport might be paying him an extra 1k a week than we were, earning as much as possible when you can is crucial for players at our level. Even more attractive for him would be securing a 3 year deal.
