Help, Please - Barrow's Kit in the Non-League Days

Post by Hadrian » Tue Jun 16, 2020 9:03 pm

I have been trying to put together some information for a website about Barrow's strip since becoming a non-league club and am grateful to have received lots of help from pjdaly.

I still have some years to 'complete the set' and wonder if anyone can help with the years listed below? I am ideally looking for the full kit information - shirt shorts and socks - with as much information as possible, eg white, crew-neck shirt with blue collar and cuffs; blue shorts with white stripe down sides; white socks with three blue hoops on cuffs.

If you also happen to have a photo of a player or team in the seasons listed which shows the complete strip, that would be a real bonus. Please use the messaging system to contact me.

See post downthread for update. Thanks in advance.

I have a feeling Hereford gave us a kit and ball and nets the first season.

In fact I have now come across a reference to that. In the 1980s when times were especially difficult at Holker Street (sadly, a regular occurrence in the club's history down the decades) an appeal for help was put out to Football League clubs and Hereford responded as Cromwell58 describes above. Good on them (despite all the names that I have called them over the years).

That's correct about Hereford.
I remember going to Frickley on the team bus and we came out in yellow shirts with a big black 'H' on the shirt along with black shorts. The first player I spotted wearing this strange looking kit was Kevin Proctor-as I initially thought it was Frickley!.

That is the site whose owner I am assisting. Since Barrow were made champions, he has been creating the graphics for the Non-League years.

He is currently working on 2000 onwards. We have much of the information and he hopes to be up-to-date within ten days or so.

It's the detail that is needed, particularly for things like shorts and socks to make the record as accurate as possible, hence the appeals up-thread.

Further assistance will be gratefully received

David Moor has completed work on the Barrow graphics in the non-league years and the page is available here.

If you see any errors and have evidence to remedy them, please get in touch with David via his Contact me link on the page. Similarly if you can help with evidence for the various omissions due to lack of knowledge.

Great work, but by God, there are more than a few horror shows there (but then that's almost certainly true for most clubs). 2006-07 has to be the worst, 1996-97 looks like it was bought from the rugby; anything with hoops should never be allowed, even on the long list.

Great work indeed!

Have to say, I'm a big fan of the kits from the 1930's with the chevron type thing. Ripe for a modern remix!
