Obviously we are not DD so no idea what his starting 11 will be and there were a couple of lads missing on Tuesday. I still think we are short up front if we have Quigley or Angus injured. We need like a Harrison type player but one that scores goals 😂

How many signings would you say we were off being ready? I was thinking three; one forward and maybe two midfielders.
I liked the look of Neil Danns yesterday... Maybe a little slow and planted at times, but he'll run that off in training. Hopefully he'll bring some league experience into the squad and prove invaluable that way too.

I think Danns could cut it in league 2 for a year and possibly even be a player you sub most matches if he can't run for 90min. As long as he puts a shift in i don't care how old he is. We've signed a few young lads so be good to have that experience in the squad. Without watching the games i can't say who does what. Seem to have defensive cover and defensive midfielders now, few quick lads who can pass, Hardcastle looks like hes getting Rooneys job but not prolific enough for me (might be different this season) I'd like to see a play maker but one of lads already brought in could be the one. Definitely light up front. Quigley, Angus, Jones plus one lad who might chip in a few goals from the bench which we didn't get last season. Im sure DD knows what the squad needs in and there is still a few weeks left to bring them in.

the fact that we don't seam to have a striker amongst the trialists makes me think that we possibly have a loanee lined up already. I've mentioned the name before - but Jack Vale ticks all the boxes - he's highly thought of at Blackburn and even came on as a sub for them in the championship in the matches played when games restarted.
And DD obviously knows all about him.

A striker is the key signing left to be made at the moment

I would like to see a striker and two decent midfielders,Jones and Matt Platt will be a good defensive combination.
I have to keep reminding myself not to compare this team to last season.
Rooney had a outstanding season in midfield.

DD comments after yesterday's game "we need 3 or 4 more" and I'd have to agree although i have said we definitely need 1 or 2 strikers (proven goal scorers) we can't rely on Quigley all season and i think Angus will score a few but we need back up. The young lad from Utd maybe just needs to settle a bit but an older play maker would benefit us and give him someone to look at and learn from. Be interesting couple of weeks to see who else comes in.

Why do people keep going on about Rooney, i recall people wanting him released at the end of the 18/19 season because he was no good. At the end of the day he bottled playing in the efl, God knows what he will do next summer if stockport get promoted, Barrow are where they are now because they are a team not 1 player, yes he scored a lot of goals but how many were penalties and free kicks were no other player got a look in

Didn't realise that like Quigs and James Jones his career began with TNS Academy. They may have some persuasive influence.

TNS seam to get a lot of the best young talented players in North Wales - much to the annoyance of Wrexham fans. even more so in Vale's case I'd guess as he's from Wrexham.

having seen the last 2 friendlies my thoughts are this;-
GK;- Dixon +1 (the Wycombe guy or Lillis) - I think we are sorted there.
Central Defence;- Jones, Hird, Platt, Brough is a good 4 - Taylor and Brown and Beadling can also cover there. We might get another 1 in - in which case Younger would look like a cheap and competent option.
Wing backs/Full back;- James Jones and Brough can play there as can Kay, Barry, Burns and Connor Brown. i don't think we need another 1 - but if we do then on yesterdays showing i'd rather have Penfold there than Ash Smith Brown - who hasn't impressed at all.
Midfield;- Mike Jones and Hardcastle are automatic starters at present on what i've seen. The other place as others have said looks to be between Beadling, Taylor and Gribbin - although Kay, Burns and Penfold can play there. Danns though is a big no from me on the last 2 games - his performances were summed up by his 2 free kicks against FCUM which ended up in the wall - and about half way up the wall at that. This looks to be one area we need another option. If Croasdale had/does sign he would probably be a good fit - but maybe it's going to be A.N.Other...
Strikers;- Quigley has no competition at present, James and Dior are too similar to play together and not physical enough as a regular top 2. Hindle looks more like the player from 2 seasons ago (goal scoring wise) and might well earn a deal. which leaves us 1 or 2 strikers short. Vale i'm guessing will be 1 - possibly the bench option at least at 1st. I Don't know if the Humphrys (Southend guy) rumours have stopped - but they got a new manager in recently which obviously complicates things. He's scored at least twice in pre-season so far. either Humprys or someone who plays like Andy Cook is needed though.

Despite the departures of Danny Graham and Dominic Samuel, Rovers aren't expected to bring in a new striker at first-team level this summer.

They have however, been linked with a move for Celtic youngster Connor McBride.

Rovers have been looking for a striker to add to their Under-23s ranks since Joe Nuttall graduated to the senior set-up in early 2019, and subsequently moved on to Blackpool.

That would allow Dan Butterworth and Jack Vale to push their claims for more first-team involvement next season.

Nuttall was once represented by Dunn. Could be his top target.

What is your obsession with Jack Vale?
