We don't know what starting 11 DD has in mind yet esp if our squad hasn't been finalised (loans etc) and I'd say looking at todays game it was a split either half. Ive said it for weeks we definitely need another proven striker. We need to remember we lost a few friendlies last season esp that one to the local Barrow select side and we weren't firing on all cylinders at the start of the season either. It takes time to build a great squad. I just hope we really put in a performance against Derby esp being on tv !

Didnt watch but these reports don't sound too encouraging considering season start is on the horizon. Will await post match interview with DD and see what he made of it all.
"To achieve anything and to get to the Football League, we have to expect to win every game. I've got to get everyone believing that we can, and I will work hard to embed that mentality into the players, the town, the board and whoever else” Ian Evatt.

The way we played today I am hoping Derby is in lockdown for a few months.
Results do not matter ,but the fact we failed to have a shot on target in the first half says it all.
Rooney stood out last year in midfield and we have not replaced him ,Quigley will be missing first three games hate to think what the score will be against Derby.

Definitely much better when the 'first' team came on but still rusty. Only Barry, Hird and Angus from the first half team are potential first team players. I would still say last season's team with Beadling and Mike Jones replacing Rooney and White is our strongest team although not particularly convinced by Beadling as yet. Of the other new players, only James Jones looks good enough to challenge last season's players. Mike Jones is a good defensive midfielder but we don't have a creative player near Rooney's level and, as others have said, we desperately need additions to the strike force as without Quigley we will struggle to score goals. Strangely, Penfold looked much better playing wing back than I've ever seen him look as a striker! I'll be very worried if we keep any of the trialists so we'll certainly need a few decent loans.

Funny you should say that, about 20 mins from the end I thought "Who is that new player on the right, he looks ok" then I realised it was Penfold.

In the last half hour those 11 looked OK (you can forgive Kay, it's his first game). Brough and Quigley stood out. I thought Penfold was far from the worst on the pitch over the 90 minutes. But, yeah, most of those triallists aren't up to much. I was really hoping for some exciting stuff from Calum Gribben but he needs to toughen up, he's far too easily knocked off his stride.
There was far too much playing it short in our own penalty area which FCUM's pressing nearly caught out on more than one occasion and we need to do better at set pieces. Some of ours were woeful.
Better that we get this sorted out now before the serious business starts but it might be a bumpy ride in the first few weeks - as it was last season.
It all comes 'round again.

You’ll be able to hear a post match IV with David Dunn on BBC Radio Cumbria
Club didn’t record one - they’re playing the game as if live now

What's the role of the media officer then

Pre season isn't a reflection of how the season will go

Everything feels a bit flat maybe its because its all behind closed doors, the pre season results/performances don't seem to be getting anyone very excited. I am hoping it will be ok on the night, managers mention mentality a lot and we need to have that winning mentality, if the aim becomes survival only we will struggle

centre backs - Hird Platt Brought and Jones. My first impressions of Jones are promising, looks a good athlete and comfortable in possession. I also liked Hird in the middle of the three. I feel we are one player short, not sure if that's the trialist Younger or not.
Centre mid - Hardcastle Jones Beadling Taylor Gribbin. Hardcastle looks full of energy, hope he can add some goals and assists to his game this season. Jones has impressed me , keeps possession and breaks it up well. Taylor is Taylor. Beadling looks totally non-descript to me, not sure what his strengths are at all. Grabbing has zero pro games and it shows. I fear they could be this seasons Waddington and Greaves. Therefore I reckon we need another centre mid. Recruitment is key we have to get this right. We need someone with a forward pass in them and the energy to get around the pitch. I don't think Danns is the answer, fingers crossed we get it right.
Windbacks - Barry Brown Kay and Burns. Yet to see young Burns if he's any good hopefully it will mean we don't sign he trialist Smith-Brown who hasn't impressed.
Centre forwards - Quigley Angus James Penfold. This is another area where we definitely need to add a quality player to the squad. Hindle looks eager to impress but not sure if the budget stretches to two strikers.
Another centre back as cover is a must but the two key signings are a quality footballer in centre midfield and another striker, let's hope we get it right.

Forgive Kay? I thought he was one of the better ones of the second half 11 subs. Especially given, and as you alluded to, it’s his first 30 mins of pre season. As always, Platt added a composure at the back and I thought Brough was decent too. Hardcastle and MJ to start the season with another CM (assuming we have a triangle of 3 in the centre of the park) No idea what Evo saw in Penfold but we can let him off.

As you said, Gribben looks like a petulant kid who doesn’t give two hoots once he’s lost the ball. Undoubted talent on the ball (if his YouTube highlights are anything to go by) but needs to show more effort and dare I say, beef up a little. I like Mike Jones, he has experience and it shows. He’s gonna be a excellent signing imo. That last midfield place is well and truly up for grabs between Gribben, Taylor and Beadling.

As a few have suggested, we look a little frail up top without Quigs there...Luke James and Dior both quiet in their respective performances but at least James won some headers. Here’s to hoping they all get some cohesion and understanding of one another from these games. Plenty of game time left before we start for good 👍🏻

Ps when is the next friendly?!

Think a lot of people are forgetting what these games are for. What is the point in playing our strongest 11? We know how they play and preform. It’s about the rest of the squad who don’t get the game time, it’s there chance to prove themselves. When the season comes and DD has our best side out it will because of games like these. I think any league two team fielding a mix of trialists, fringe players and the odd first teamer would not be fluent. Hird and platt didn’t play together who were a major factor last year as were Quigley and Angus who also didn’t pair up. Good to see hindle scoring again

Lets forget about the players on trial, simply not good enough,Ashley Smith brown didn’t affect the game on left hand side, what a difference when Kay comes on and we look more threatening.DD says he wants Barrow to be athletic and press the opposition but your not going to get that from Danns,Younger looks the best of the three but I feel defence is where we are strong enough, good to see Platt back and reunited with Hird soon I hope, midfield still looks the problem to me,Jones and Hardcastle are the two standouts so far but we definitely need a creative midfielder with legs,Gribbin might be that player one day as he has talent but is easily knocked off ball ,work rate needs to improve and not stand and admire passes, not sure about Beadling yet as hasn’t shown much, needs to impose himself more on a game, time to stop giving everyone a game and get down to sorting out the best eleven

DD stated on RC that he ‘...still needs another 3 or 4...’ including a striker who is ‘...not just a back-up...’
I think we are due a ‘marquee’ signing to continue the general euphoria. What’s Zlatan doing these days?
We will foller the soccer, over land and sea...
