[SwearFilter] man Rooney has gone forget about him. Mark Mac and spirit of, need to take those rose tinted off, that was dreadful.

I'm well aware he's gone but the point is that we need somebody in midfield with at least some of his skill to replace him and currently we don't have anybody!Desmond2-2 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 9:59 pm[SwearFilter] man Rooney has gone forget about him. I like to bet that Rooney is getting a fair bit more at Stockport than we offered him as will be Croasdale who we were on the point of signing according to the guy called AFC Fylde Source who has got every one of the Fylde transfers out correct. If we can't match the money other teams are paying then we can't but for such a key player I'd make an exception even if it meant not signing a couple of the players we have signed and giving the money spent on them to a much more valuable asset. It may be that wouldn't have helped but I doubt it very much and I'm sure that is what we will have done to keep Quigley and sign Platt. You have to identify your key players and do everything within your finances to keep those as the top priority.

Re: Carlisle United vs Barrow AFC Match Thread
I haven’t seen a game yet so can only judge from commentary on radio or comments on here.
We were spoilt with the football played under Evatt, it was good to watch, but that’s obviously not what we are going to get now.
I wasn’t sure about Dunn’s appointment, thought the club had just gone with “a name” tbh, but I agree he needs time. But how long is the question. I’ll be happy if we just stay in the league but the earlier you are down there at the bottom the harder it is to get going and move up. Might be too soon but if things haven’t improved by end of this month I think the board have a decision to make.

I concur strongly. We have waited 48 years for this.tictactoe wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 10:34 am I haven’t seen a game yet so can only judge from commentary on radio or comments on here.

Re: Carlisle United vs Barrow AFC Match Thread
the trouble we have is the longer you go without winning you then become scared to make mistakes which then actually happens, these injuries can't help but as a team we need a strong leader on the pitch telling people where to go etc we don't seem to have this, oh and 2 more forwards

Newport we should have got a point and they were equally as bad as us- Hird's error cost us. Colchester were pretty good, mobile and strong and we matched them pretty well in the main. Stevenage were awful but we made a ridiculous error.. Carlisle bossed us yesterday first half, which was for me by far our worst half of the season. Second half was difficult to call, we are too far apart and we lack craft but don't lack effort. But we are not being outmatched by any of these teams.Kieran wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 11:39 pmI disagree Steve, I think they've all looked better than us with the possible exception of Stevenage. That is not a good Carlisle side, but they were comfortably better than us in every department. That's not to say we're necessarily a million miles away, but we're certainly missing a couple of key ingredients that I think are unlikely to come from within the current squad of players as it stands right now.
I don't think the referee was particularly bad either, by and large he got most things right. The late penalty shout is one you might see given sometimes, but I do think Hardcastle went down easily.
What we are finding imo, is the rather depressing thought that this league is very much entirely based around who capitalises on the mistakes. There were very few flashes of skill and we appear as what we are- in a transitional phase. Some of the players will manage the league fine, some won't.
I don't agree about the ref. It was a stonewall pen imo. He was bad for both sides second half.
Where I do agree entirely is about the ingredients- we need another forward and someone with a bit of guile. Might be the same person but for me, it's two.

Thank god we are not allowed in the ground to watch the matches, one bad match and everybody is on their back. New manager and new team give them a chance.
Re: Carlisle United vs Barrow AFC Match Thread
Absolutely this. Its who from last season can adapt and quickly. This is a league where direct power football, set pieces and aerial threat 9 out of 10 wins the day. As you say, add in to that capitalising on mistakes, from which we’ve been punished twice already. Teams will let us pass it around our own half all day long, there’s no threat from that. In fact the only threat is on ourselves because we will lose the ball and immediately find ourselves on the back foot.barrowaberdeen wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 11:12 amWhat we are finding imo, is the rather depressing thought that this league is very much entirely based around who capitalises on the mistakes. "To achieve anything and to get to the Football League, we have to expect to win every game. I've got to get everyone believing that we can, and I will work hard to embed that mentality into the players, the town, the board and whoever else” Ian Evatt.

Altrincham supporter and general follower of "proper" football. I come in peace ! Does anyone know the details of James Jones's injury please ? He's still held in high regard by the majority of us here. I've watched the incident through 3 or 4 times on the EFL highlights show (red card all day long) but agree with them that it wasn't the foul but the way he landed.
Good luck for the rest of the season - there's plenty of time to sort things out, and it's not like you're getting rinsed every game. I hope that when I next see us play at Holker Street it won't be in the National League !

Mighty Robin, am afraid our club aren't very good at giving out information about injuries, we've a few players out injured at the moment but it's never made public how long they'll be out for, thanks for the good luck message and same to you

Re: Carlisle United vs Barrow AFC Match Thread
We can only hope Dunne sits the players down and makes them watch/analyse yesterday's game. He needs to be questioning why so many passes were played backwards and what exactly the players' thought processes were when we had a corner in the second half that instead of being played into the oppositions penalty area 3 passes later was yet again passed backwards to Dixon for him to launch back up the impressive Brunton Park pitch.
We had a lot of possession but looked very slow in our movement and ponderous in our general decision-making and ultimately created very little. Very much a case of possession for possessions sake.
Dior has struggled in every game I've watched this season (and a good few last) and would make a good substitute at this level coming on when legs are tiring. Picking an extra body in the midfield to start yesterday and dropping Dior would've convinced me Dunne had a bit of nous when it came to playing away against seasoned campaigners at this level.
He is after all paid and paid well to make the right decisions and big calls. He's going to have to learn and learn quickly if he wants to be meaningfully employed come Christmas.
Most on here have said we've got to show a bit of patience with the manager which I agree with, in principle, his practices are possible causes for concern.

I think most people are very willing to give them a shot. 10 games and we'll see what's what. It's just unfortunate that we haven't seen much positivity in the games so far or pre season.Cromwell58 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 11:33 am Thank god we are not allowed in the ground to watch the matches, one bad match and everybody is on their back. Bang on. Have seen most of the games live and we aren't far away. Missing Platt and DD needs to come up with a plan to get us further up the park in midfield or find that elusive creative midfielder. Hopefully a new fwd in this week and a chance to have a go at Leeds mobday with a positive attitude. The balance of the side looked off yesterday, round pegs for round holesbarrowaberdeen wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 11:12 amNewport we should have got a point and they were equally as bad as us- Hird's error cost us.
