You watched it "live" did you? I don't think you've mentioned it before
Chris Taylor

Re: Chris Taylor
Can only judge him on his performance.
If you watch him.on the hour long interview I posted on new signings he admits few.mistakes .
Dunn has signed someone he knows no different to Evatt signing Byron Harrison and Hird.
Let's hope he is hungry enough to play out of his skin otherwise it will be a toss up who goes first Dunn or Johnson by Christmas

Re: Chris Taylor
Evatt also signed his former Chesterfield teammate Josh Kay who has turned out a really good signing.Pedro wrote: ↑Tue Oct 06, 2020 10:45 am Can only judge him on his performance.

It's common practice though Byron never recovered from the injury after the Lincoln game and came a second time and never looked anything likesaltcellar wrote: ↑Tue Oct 06, 2020 11:07 amEvatt also signed his former Chesterfield teammate Josh Kay who has turned out a really good signing.Pedro wrote: ↑Tue Oct 06, 2020 10:45 am Can only judge him on his performance.

Re: Chris Taylor
I for one am very excited by the signing of this 33-year-old journeyman.
He was after all selected for the League One team of the year while at Oldham. Some may point out that this was 11 years ago but they are just being negative.

And he is a year younger than Zlatan when he joined United and he did okay.
It's all relative; I have a theory about it...

Re: Chris Taylor
Totally agree. Promotion to the EFL certainly hasn't improved the frame of mind of some forum members.
Firstly, publishing the comments of supporters of previous clubs as "fact" before a player has actually turned out for your club is grossly disrespectful and spiteful and the player has of course no opportunity to rebalance. So on his behalf let me say that both Bradford City and Bolton have being decaying as clubs for a number of years before Taylor turned up, much too the frustration of their supporters and arguably continue to be so in L2 today. They were not rank because of Chris Taylor, they were simply rank with Chris Taylor in their squad. There is a difference.
Secondly those who yesterday were swift to slaughter Taylor on this forum may also be those who either have quickly developed a dislike for Dunn and/or seem to think that the answer to our midfield/attacking short-comings is grabbing hold of a decent prospect in their mid/late 20s with a proven pedigree of scoring goals. Gone are the days apparently when we couldn't afford the cost of their boots let alone the feet to go in them.
Reality is that if they are our their we very probably cant afford them. You might argue we could've afforded them if we hadn't splashed out on Matty Platt or a whole heap of defenders and if you do feel that way you can direct your anger at the manager. Nevertheless the fact remains we have to live within our means. Our squad is already arguably a bit too big and if you are of the view that it contains players who should not be on contracts then by all means again direct your anger at the manager.
Just chucking in Chris Taylor to make this point though is actually pretty wide of the mark. Whilst I may not be one of DDs greatest advocates Taylors addition makes absolute sense given these constraints. If you take Luke Hardcastle (a fine prospect in just about everyone's opinion) I'd suggest his current strengths were fitness, application and experience in descending order. With Taylor they are reversed - experience, application and fitness in that order. Taylors role is not to dominate midfield but to activate it, a job that I have to say he started to do reasonably well in the second half last night. If Taylor plays well you should see it in the attitude and performance of others not in his own goal tally.
Re: Chris Taylor
I thinks it's unfair on Chris Taylor that this signing has provoked the response it has. I think it's more the fact we have signed a 34 year old lower league journeyman midfielder on a short term deal. We don't have any short term injuries in centre midfield and we have already signed Jones, Biggins, Beadling and Gribbin, who are all fit and available. It suggests that despite the Chairman suggesting that we have got our recruitment right, we haven't.

Re: Chris Taylor
I'd agree with that. I just don't believe you want two 33 year olds playing in central midfield and we already have Mike Jones. Midfield players have to be quick and cover the ground. You might manage with one if he's decent but not two. Last night with the 2 Taylors both 33 years old we got run ragged in midfield until the Leeds youngsters tired after an hour.Ace wrote: ↑Tue Oct 06, 2020 2:31 pm I thinks it's unfair on Chris Taylor that this signing has provoked the response it has. Re: Chris Taylor
Jeez give them all chance to show what they can do on the pitch!
It’s gonna take all our support to survive in this league in extremely difficult times. The very least we can do is get right behind them and give them a lift not stab them in the back before they even kick a ball.
Good luck to the whole squad
Survival in this league and off it as a club and hopefully build more on the club’s infrastructure will more than do this supporter.

Good luck to the whole squad

A young player would naturally improve his fitness once playing regularly in men's football.JammyBluebird wrote: ↑Tue Oct 06, 2020 4:11 pmMaybe we can get one of them youngsters on loan and they can... Tire after an hour and before our two 33 year old![]()
An old player certainly wouldn't be increasing his pace or ability to get around the pitch.

Re: Chris Taylor
I wouldn't take any notice of fans of previous clubs, there are many reasons for a player to fail in football. The style of play may not totally suit or the amount of responsibility given to him or even his skill set against that of his fellow players. All these things affect a players outlook on the pitch, not to mention the position of the club their stress levels at the time and even whats going on in a players private life, why else to some players seem rubbish at one club and then look like a world beater somewhere else.
Let's leave the coaching to those with qualifications and moderate our opinions to that of supporters because that's what WE do best get behind the team and the manager and have a positive attitude that's what will make a difference not whinging on here as if we know better.
Come on Barrow we are better than that!
