BARROW V Orient match thread
Re: BARROW V Orient match thread
Ffs get off their backs its not as if they are not trying to win games once we get a settled side and get fans back (hopefully) we will see what a good team and manager weve got

this is a forum which means people are allowed an opinion (as long as they don't get personal) if you are uncomfortable with opinions then why come on here?

I must confess I was a bit worried by our poor start to the season. But that was before the recent reassurances provided by Sonofsam - a great football mind and formidable intellect.

Re: BARROW V Orient match thread
Point is its a meaningless cliche. As stated elsewhere Leyton Orient after having a poor season last year finishing 17th have made less than a handful of signings in the close season. This can only be because of the state of their finances but I've never heard anybody ever say "its really difficult to attract players to a club like Leyton Orient". In fact their manager would be tarred and feathered if he did.+[ [[Kris]] ]+ wrote: ↑Sat Oct 10, 2020 8:11 pmPossibly, I was cringing that heavily when he started to say it I may have missed that bit.saltcellar wrote: ↑Sat Oct 10, 2020 7:57 pm
Was the "difficult to attract players" not attributed to wages?
That was what I heard.
Calling out the intelligence of the squad says - its not me its the team. Calling out the ability of the club to be able to attract players says - its not me its you the Club and/or you the town. Evatt never did that. He had the same issues but was able put his point across differently because he was aware of the sensitivities to supporters of coming out with the type of stereotypical bullsh*t that has been touted for eons and is now being attributed to Dunn.

If he’s calling out the intelligence of the squad , he will lose the dressing room quickly. As for the town - well he’s already losing support . If he really has said these things he would have demonstrated that he is not up to the task and I would find it difficult to continue to support him .

Just watched the post match interview (again) and he said neither of those things. If fact I thought he gave a pretty fair assessment of where we are and what the problems are. Hopefully he can turn it around .
Re: BARROW V Orient match thread
Unfortunately many folk have already decided he's not up to the job. Me, I'd rather put faith in the current board whi have obviously seen something in him they like.

Re: BARROW V Orient match thread
I'm afraid that is very naive. The average tenure of a manager in professional football is 1.23 years! That means that directors at every club think they have made the wrong choice after almost every season. Most of us think think our current board is running the club very well from the business side but they have almost no expertise is understanding who will make a good football manager and, as is obvious from the figure above, nor have almost all boards of directors! In fact, it's an almost impossible task and relies much more on good luck than good judgement as was illustrated so vividly by our appointment of Ian Evatt who had no football management history to recommend him before coming to Barrow.
Re: BARROW V Orient match thread
Agreed, but still rather trust them than the rants of some people currently which is casting suxh a negative vibe about the club. We're half a doz games in and yet to field anywhere near a full strength side. People judging Dunn on how he speaks on an interview without no insight into what is going on behind the scenesrussell_anderson wrote: ↑Mon Oct 12, 2020 3:24 pmI'm afraid that is very naive. Re: BARROW V Orient match thread
I think any judgements people are making have probably got far more to do with performances and results - both of which have been poor - than interviews.
I'm not advocating sacking Dunn, but I'm not sure how people are struggling to see some very obvious worrying signs.
Re: BARROW V Orient match thread
Time will tell, I'll reserve judgement until we've had a chance with a full (or as full as possible) squad available

Of cause getting the right football manager is down to good luck.russell_anderson wrote: ↑Mon Oct 12, 2020 3:24 pmI'm afraid that is very naive. Ian Evatt has football history now and his team are only 1 point above Barrow despite bringing in nearly all Bolton's current squad.
That squad includes Doyle who was the division 2 too scorer last season and is reported to be on £7000 to £9000 a week.
He has also recruited a few other big names for this division.
Like Evatt, David Dunn needs to be given time.
Other managers with football history have also struggled.
Graham Alexander is one who Salford have just sacked despite being 5th in division 2 and unbeaten.
Incidentally, would Barrow have been any higher with Evatt in charge given that Rooney has gone and players like Quigley, Platt and Brough from last years squad missing the games they have?
Possibly, but not probably.
That's football.

We will never know for certain but I would be very confident had evatt stayed in charge with virtually the same squad and the momentu carried over from last season that we would currently be sitting on more than 3 points
