I was challenging the premise that the paper might in some way be operating a different business model from any other paper rather than making a comment upon the article. The original quote seemed to be suggesting that The Mail might be behaving in an unusual way in trying sell papers and earn income from forward links.Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Mon Oct 12, 2020 6:31 pmWell a decent journalist might at least have been able to spin the story into something with a shred of authenticity or relevance. This one actually contradicts themselves in the strap line! Which based on the content should actually have read something like
"Number of banning orders for Barrow fans not very good though not actually the worst in the NL. But far worse than Borehamwood, nothstanding the fact that 10 times the number of people turned up for a Barrow game than at Borehamwood. Anyway Police are very worried about the increase in racially motivated incidences like that very nasty one at Hartlepool last season, err...though none of those actually involved Barrow supporters"
Fancy that!

Re: Fancy that!ù
The Mail merely does it in an especially venal way and now have not one journalist who even turns up at Barrow AFC games.
As to the article it is an utter nonsense. I don't think a single one is last season.

That was my impression, too.
I'm afraid much of the Newsquest 'reporting' within Cumbria comes from young people with limited experience, moderate local knowledge and sometimes dodgy SPG trawling the net in Kendal for things to shape into stories.
As a strategy it isn't too bad to create some content but the lack of 'boots on the ground' around the patch to sniff out stories shows, as does the lack of direction. One person seems to assume responsibility for all editorial across the titles and there appears to be a lack (or possibly absence) of sub-editors to review output or check the website software is doing its job. (On the same day the story we are discussing appeared online another was illustrated with an inverted photo.)
