Re: Barrow v Walsall match thread
If I'd committed a stupid unnecessary foul, that got me my 3rd yellow card in 6 games, that gave Walsall a free kick, that led to a penalty, that they converted, that levelled the scores, (same as last week, foul, free-kick, goal, scores levelled) to deny my team 3 points, which would have been the first home win of the season, that p.....d off the manager, the team, 3000 fans, my family and loved ones, I'd have an upset stomach too, probably diarrhea.saltcellar wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2020 8:01 pm Josh Kay had stomach cramp that's why he came off and Connor Brown replaced him.

Re: Barrow v Walsall match thread
To be fair, he made both our goals by firstly winning the pen, then also cutting inside from the left and driving beyond two players which led to James scoring. There’s also a hell of a wedge of blame towards the unknown player who gave away the penalty by dragging a player down unnecessarily in the box.SayitagainSam wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2020 8:56 pmIf I'd committed a stupid unnecessary foul, that got me my 3rd yellow card in 6 games, that gave Walsall a free kick, that led to a penalty, that they converted, that levelled the scores, (same as last week, foul, free-kick, goal, scores levelled) to deny my team 3 points, which would have been the first home win of the season, that p.....d off the manager, the team, 3000 fans, my family and loved ones, I'd have an upset stomach too, probably diarrhea.saltcellar wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2020 8:01 pm Josh Kay had stomach cramp that's why he came off and Connor Brown replaced him.No headache Josh?

Was it not Jason Taylor?
He has been doing it (undetected) for years.
Re: Barrow v Walsall match thread
Didn’t see, was too busy storming around the living room in frustration after the ref had given it. You’re right about Taylor though, loves hanging onto players at set pieces and getting away with it.saltcellar wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2020 9:35 pmUnknown.janwilder wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2020 9:32 pm

If refs gave penalties consistently for holding etc in the area it might stamp it out. It's ridiculous what goes on these days.

Re: Barrow v Walsall match thread
FC United of Manchester had a socially distanced crowd of 600 today in their match against Guiseley. If they are allowed such a crowd, then why aren’t we?
Re: Barrow v Walsall match thread
'Getting rid of the ball' generally means lumping it forward in panic over the half-way line where the opposition reclaim possession.

Trouble is, most teams seem to have even bigger lads with great upper-body strength.Il Metronomo wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2020 5:46 pm Our set pieces have been diabolical all season, we've not even looked like scoring from any of them. We have some big lads in the squad who are good in the air, we should really carry much more of a threat. They should get to work on the training ground, it's the sort of thing that could easily turn these draws into wins.
Is this actually true or just a repeated trope from pervious unsubstantiated posts?thegaffer77 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2020 5:28 pm Jason Taylor's made q difference although runs out of legs at he end.
Other than being top scorer, of course.
Thought that after Bolton, too. The light turned out to be Walsall's bus.spirit of 1990 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2020 8:17 pm On today’s showing there’s definitely light at the end of the tunnel, we just need to try and cut out avoidable individual mistakes.
More seriously, I agree. The last three performances with a weakened team have shown promise. A win must come eventually and confidence may start to build.

And the opposition can't score from their own half. They can score if we gift them the ball in our area which we've discovered the hard way.Hadrian wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2020 10:30 pm'Getting rid of the ball' generally means lumping it forward in panic over the half-way line where the opposition reclaim possession.

Re: Barrow v Walsall match thread
I wouldn’t say we haven’t looked like winning a game. At times today we looked like winning. Bolton scored with the last kick of the game so we looked like winning that. Feel we should beat Stevenage and Kay had a great chance to win the game last week.
Tbh apart from the first hour versus Carlisle (didn’t watch the Newport game) I don’t feel we’ve been played off the park by anyone. Silly petulant stupid fouls or mistakes leading to goals. Cut them out, more discipline we will be fine.

We have played 6 of the top 14 in the table and only 2 below 14th position in the table I think that first win is just around the corner but to be honest Id take 19th in the table come the end of the season as i always thought it would be a relegation battle

Re: Barrow v Walsall match thread
I thought we generally played quite well yesterday. Looked in control and kept possession well for large parts of the game. There were some nice passages of build up play and dangerous attacks with no end product.
Errors at the back are costing us and letting sides back into games we're in control of. I haven't seen a side tear us apart at all, with most goals coming from errors or lapses in concentration. Joel hasn't had to much to do, other than pick it out of the net after a cockup.
Up front we need to be more clinical. We could've been out of sight by half time yesterday. Chances seem to go begging (Biggins from close range, Taylor at the end). Our strikers, apart from Quigley, don't seem to take a chance with balls in. A lot of dangerous deliveries seem to fizz across the box untouched with Angus in particular, hanging back or reacting late.
We do seem to run out of legs towards the end of games, particularly with our "elder" midfielders. A little bit confused with the use of subs. Thought Taylor came on far too late to have much of an impact (bar the chance at the end).
All in all I think, in terms of general play, were doing ok. We don't look out of place and are causing sides headaches, indeed, should really have won a couple if not more. If we can address the above points, we'll do ok. I know it's a big if and a lot should've, couldve, wouldve, but we're not being demolished and the overall performance is at a level where we can improve and build.
Or maybe I'm just being overly positive because of the extra hour in bed???

I think it’s the classification of what is and what isn’t ‘elite sport’. But as l said elsewhere if it’s operating safely why not roll it out and up the pyramid to get all concerned familiarised with the necessary procedures.
We will foller the soccer, over land and sea...
