I don't think the result actually matters too much tonight. Some good minutes for key people, who all looked pretty good as well.

We are improving and I think that counts for something.

Fair enough . We’re solid but lack inspiration. We give a sloppy goal away and then miss a penalty. Not much happened after that. We could not break them down and we don’t seem to be able to get in behind teams .

Quigs, Brown and Jason T all good . The rest not so good. We don’t seem to have brought in any players who have significantly improved the team . That’s not good considering the number of signings made .

They got the early goal and were good enough to see out the game. We certainly didn’t look a league below them, even with the changes we made. Might have created more if they had needed a goal and pushed up. Entertaining game overall. Be interesting to see the starting line up on Saturday.

Created very little tonight bar the pen I don’t recall us testing their keeper at all.

They defended very well to be fair. They were very hard working and closed us down quickly all over the pitch

Agree. I thought they were as good as any side we've faced this season. Result aside, i thought we put in a decent overall performance and feel that with players returning we’ll start getting results in the league.
The biggest question mark is over who is the current strongest 11 because there were some good performances out there tonight.

Mickey Mouse cup that’s been shite ever since the new format and u21 teams were allowed in. No one wants to watch their team play Chelsea’s academy at Wembley. And in a season where fixtures are already congested as much as they are, it’s not a bad thing to be out of the pizza cup.

Decent workout against a well drilled outfit. Some decent chances 1st half, but they pressed much higher 2nd half and we dont have teh guile to break that down.

Sort of sums us up doesn't it? We are a well organised, structured, but limited football team.

Think these comments are a bit harsh. Tonight we've seen 9 changes to the starting line up from last league game. Quigs and Nthle coming through their returns looking good. Reid making a good claim for a start. I think if you break down that game we had plenty of possession and matched them for large parts. They are a league above us and that showed in the finer detail where it matters. They closed us down very well in our own half but they didn't open us up time and again. Yes it would have been nice to progress and pick up the prize money but there were plenty of positives to take away.

I don't disagree that individuals had good games and that tonight was not a worthwhile exercise. With each game, we seem to become slightly more assured and we look more comfortable at this level. Nevertheless, I think the point I made stands. We are a well-organised football team - this is clear when you look at the way the team gets into shape once we lose the ball. We are a structured football team - again, you don't see much dynamic movement both on and off the ball - players know their roles and stick to them. And finally, we are a limited football team - we don't have a player who can pass between the lines and we do spend to much time on the ball and passing backwards/sideways. In part, this is the trade-off with being a structured, organised team. Now, this is not to say we don't have good individual players - we absolutely do and it is through individual moments of brilliance that we see our best chances occur. For example, Quigley beating men on the turn, or the clever footwork by Reid. But, we don't carve teams open and we don't have the same fluency as last year. In part, this is because we have stepped up a level and this is entirely to be expected. The other part is that we do play slightly differently from last year.

My statement wasn't meant to be some harsh criticism, rather it is a matter of facts as I see it. We are getting better and I would think the limits I see in this team will dissolve as we get players back to full fitness and Hardcastle returns.

Football is about opinions and we see it slightly differently. It is what makes this forum interesting.

Entertaining game?? I must have watched a different game! Thought it was dull as dishwater. We never once threatened their goal or got in behind and once they got ahead after 3 minutes they never needed to as bar the pen we didn’t have any threat. A lot of sideways and backwards passing we lack forward drive at times from midfield and out wide last night being a perfect example.

I agree with all your points. Very dull. I think we had 2 shots on target in the 90 mins including the penalty. No penatration and slow build up. Nowhere near the strongest team we have, of course and, as usual, Quigley, although rusty, is a different level to any of our other strikers. An almost identical team lost at Tranmere on Saturday so they are nothing great but that applies to almost all League 1 and 2 teams. Although, if it wasn't for the financial needs, I'd be glad we're out of this nonsense competition.

It was me that watched the wrong game. Can’t believe it!! Had accidentally switched channels and watched Dr Pimple Popper for 90 minutes. Thought our players were carrying some bad knocks.
