Nothing wrong with their last minute free kick. It's a clear foul by Jones IMO.

There comes a point when someone needs to stand up and be counted in this team. Too many mistakes, too many soft goals. We have a good team IMO, a manager who has improved and we should be on 6-9 points more than we are. Problem is, if we continue to concede silly goals late on we will be in trouble come May.

Must win on Tuesday.

Its not always a fault, just split second moments. The proof will be how quick we learn. Cant compare to last season, coming up against teams with a bit more nounce,. KTF
Fair point about last season. It is a league up. Wouldn't say it's a huge step up in standard, but it is a step up all the same.
Split second moments or mistakes/fault. Either way it's happening too much. Quite often weve seen an opposition player with no defender in sight. I agree with what you say. It's whether or not they learn and how quickly. I would say it's the area David Dunn needs address most urgently. The rest is pretty good
Again, I'm quite positive and optimistic about this team in general. I'm not dooming on them at all. It's just those little moments where we cost ourselves points. If we cut those out and learn from them, we'll be fine. This is a good team we have.
We hate Carlisle United, we hate Workington too (and Morecambe), we hate Accrington Stanley but Barrow we love you :scarf:

Letting in 2 very late and 2 stupid goals in 4 Games (3 at Home) turned 4 wins into 4 draws = 8 points lost.

21 points = 6th in league.

Barrow v Stevenage: 1 – 1. 85 min. (unnecessary penalty)
Barrow v Bolton: 3 – 3. 90 + 5 min. (last kick of the game)
Cambridge v Barrow: 1 - 1. 56 min. (unnecessary back-pass)
Barrow v FGR: 2 – 2. 90 + 6 min. (last kick of the game)

Fewer defensive school-boy errors and better game management must be emphasized Mr Dunn!

Thank you very much.

I'm also by no means an advocate of making any drastic changes but there currently seems to be a general mindset of 'if we didn't make this mistake we'd be here' or 'good performance we just aren't getting the rub of the green.' Where's the line between bad luck and bad habits?

I'd personally like to hear more about what we're doing to improve our game management and how we will be rectifying our consistent mistakes.
100% agree with this.

Also worth mentioning that was the 1st full game quigley and james have started together, plenty of good link up play which kis only going to get better

Once our injured/suspended players are back, I'd start James Jones for Sam Hird: Josh Kay for Kosian Nthle: Lewis Hardcastle for Harrison Biggins.

With this line-up we'd probably win most games, having watched 13 opponents so far, none of whom we need fear.

Disappointed with Biggins poor free kicks. Wasted. Always too high over the bar.

You MUST make the most of your free-kicks, especially just outside the box, and corners too, like FGR did today.

James and Quigley as starters should be set in stone as our main goal-scorers, with Kay, Barry and possibly Hardcastle as secondary potential goal contributors.

All others are cream on the top.
Completely agree, Sam. Those 3 coming in will make a huge difference to the team. Jones will put much more pace and height into the defence, Hardcastle will put some ability to carry the ball forward and get around the pitch with pace into midfield and Kay gives the team more balance on the left side.

spirit of 1990 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 21, 2020 6:39 pm As seems usual for us, a piece of bad play costs us....this time the shocking defending for their first goal. I can accept in the heat of the moment a daft foul at the end of a game but to leave a player with so much space and allow a team to score without a challenge going in is pretty bad going at any level.

The pluses are we seem to be improving generally, the football is looking better and we are scoring a few goals, we’re not being totally outclassed & we’re on a decent little run. We also have to remember that the last two games have been against two very decent teams...I think we’d have all been happy with two draws last Saturday morning.

Think my wife hit the nail on the head with...why do you all put yourself through this?
Agree that their first goal was shocking defending. We didn't even have a defender marking the near post at the edge of the 6 yard area which is something every team does automatically to cut out any corners hit at head height or lower. Their player who made the run had a completely empty space to run into even if he did finish it well.

I can never understand why when defending against free kicks from just outside the penalty area a player isn’t positioned on each post. Had there been a defender on Dixon’s right hand post for FGR’s 96th minute free kick yesterday there’s a good chance the ball would have been cleared and the match won.

Because it would allow the team with the free kick to put bodies in front of the keeper making it more difficult for him. A player on the post would not have got to it, came off the bar, don't think we have a player that tall..

Quite often you see a player quickly run back onto the post as the free-kick taker steps up. Ensures a man is on a post and the keeper still gets an unobstructed view. Not sure this would have helped yesterday though.

Giving away the free-kick in the first place was the problem. A shocking misjudgement from an experienced player. If even the guys with hundreds of league appearances can't show a bit of composure in these vital moments then it'll keep happening.

Defending for their first goal was also inept, however on the plus side the performance was generally good (against a very useful side) and Luke James continued his outrageously good form and scored a fine goal. Jason Taylor is a great man and should receive a knighthood.

We all seem to be in agreement regarding both our steady progress to date and our shortfalls. Which is good I think as there was a lot of name-calling creeping in to the Forum narratives which I attributed to the Lockdown. Now I'm going to put the foot among the pigeons here when I suggest that when that free kick was awarded to FGR late on yesterday, every single one of us knew it was going in. Spooky or what?

Maybe all our sharp intakes of breath sucked the ball into the net!🤔

Well I certainly did, because I had put the video on pause a few minutes earlier when I needed to visit the bathroom, but couldn't resist checking on Flashscore!
