The money would have been very useful but other than that we're probably better out of it as we need to win league matches and not pile a fixture backlog. If we had won most of the better players would have had to play on Sunday before the much more important match 3 days later at Morecambe. Two reserve sides played tonight so can't judge too much but Hird and Wilson played very well. The biggest worry is Quigley who looks nothing like the player of last season and we really need him to some sort of form.

much better performance than the team sheet would have suggested.
Could have won the game in 90 mins and should have had a penalty (well 2 pens) in the last 5 minutes - might not have scored it though....

we have 2 players who can slot into most positions (when everyone is fit) and other than Platt there are not many who look like automatic choices which is good.

Of the players who came in yesterday;-
Lillis was solid apart from the one time he nearly let the ball squirt over the line.
Wilson was the standout in defence - he's never let us down when he's come in.
Zouma - better than previous - but he's behind Platt, Hird, Brough, James Jones, Wilson and Ntlhe when it comes to central defenders. long term he's probably a back up for Kay at wing back.
Gribben - still a bit frustrating - but his best game by far so far - I think he will benefit more than most from the 120 minutes played - needs to have a chat with Lewis Hardcastle and get on whatever gym workout he got on that bulked him up. Huge potential though.
Sea and Reid - I was expecting Reid to make more of an impact that Sea - based on his cameo at Grimsby when he terrified their defence when he came on - but although they were both in and out of the game Sea made more of an impact - and he's got one hell of a powerful shot on him.

That said would i start any of them against Morecambe (changes from the Oldham line up)?
Chris Taylor possibly instead of Jason Taylor
Hird definitely ahead of Zouma at right sided centre back.
Possibly Sea also in the side - but for who?

imagine though the effect we would have going forward in the last 30 mins if we brought on Kay, Sea and Angus all at once against a tiring defence...

You can tell that from the 2 games he's played?
More frustration that he's not hit the ground running.. His outburst at scoring the other day didn't show that...

For me, I was pleased with the defence and think Scott Wilson is worth a start soon. He is good on the ball, quick and makes good decisions. Sea and Reid linked up well too in the first half

next game I would personally go with

Dixon
Brough, Hird, Platt
Barry, J Taylor, Jones, Kay
James
Quigley, Sea

Would let Wilson know that he's not far away.

I would also consider a 4-5-1 with plenty of width

In which case I would go

Dixon
Brown Hird Platt Brough
Barry J Taylor Jones Kay
James
Quigley

I think a wide combo of Brown + Barry and Brough + Kay would be a real threat in this league.

Five or six decent passes in a game when given a bit of space and time doesn't add up to a significant contribution. He is very weak under pressure, easily robbed of the ball and won't tackle. A luxury player.

Possibly, but not going to get better/confident without game minutes. Ive not been his biggest fan, but thought he got more influential as the game went on.

Quiggs has been injured for a fair while & has only played a few games, They used to say it takes players 5/6 games to get back up to the optimal level, Hope it’s just that.

Because our midfield has been so good in the league this season.
