Re: Barrow v Salford match thread
No one in the middle of the pitch coming for the ball when the defenders / wide players have it.
Quigley poor. Like watching a school team where theres only one lad that can kick a football, he has to start mixing it up and passing a bit when he's done the hard work. Being selfish is a good thing as a striker but not 30 yards out every time.
Overall... POOR.

I think Kelly gave it to Dunn before it was passed on to Brian.spirit of 1990 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 05, 2020 7:51 pmI saw that too Elaine, I’ve never seen that before. What was that all about? I thought at first it was a mobile phone. Not seen that happen before.

Saw the same thing on a TV game recently. I suppose it makes sense that you don’t want to bawl certain instructions out to the world.saltcellar wrote: ↑Sat Dec 05, 2020 10:29 pmI think Kelly gave it to Dunn before it was passed on to Brian.spirit of 1990 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 05, 2020 7:51 pm

Well when you see where Luke James was playing when their goal was scored I think its obvious what the piece of paper said. He moved up alongside Quigley soon afterwards. I have never seen Luke James playing where Dunn had him early second half.

Re: Barrow v Salford match thread
First time back on here for a while and I can’t believe this thread.
If the football was awful long ball stuff, players looked like they didn’t care or the manager was having his head turned by something else then I could see why people are calling for him.
The reality is that a new manager has come in, played some decent stuff and deserves more points than he’s got. I don’t think he should take the blame for points dropped against Stevenage, Bolton, Forest Green and in other games the tactics have got us dominating games but mistakes or poor finishing has cost us.
Everything is going against us right now including refereeing decisions and injuries, and I don’t see how a new manager at this stage would change anything. Keep the faith and if we keep playing like we are, the jigsaw pieces will come together.

That’s because you haven’t watched Peterborough, Bradford, Forest Green, Bristol Rovers, Hartlepool where he played as a right sided midfielder

Re: Barrow v Salford match thread
It was the most obvious defensive 4-4-2 for 50 minutes of the game (until Salford scored), and that’s why James on occasions was on defensive duties. Another strange game where we could easily (even deservedly) have won it. Dixon had nothing significant to do except collect the ball from the back of the net from a cross/speculative shot. There goalie was good. Two really good saves (Quigley first ½ and Reid second). Not sure why we aren’t winning, because we aren’t bad and never get hammered. Defensively don’t look too bad, but don’t seem to play the ball in possession with enough speed, accuracy and penetration.

Re: Barrow v Salford match thread
Really missed Mike Jones yesterday I thought and our marauding wingbacks didn't seem to provide much input as a consequence. So far not so good, but we aren't having much luck either - which can happen. I wonder if the transfer window might provide the solution rather than removing DD. We seem to have a surplus of journeyman midfielders some of who could be loaned out to offset the hiring of someone to turn things around.
The coaching staff will have the contacts I would think, so now might be the time to make someone an offer they can't refuse.

Re: Barrow v Salford match thread
I was there yesterday... and after just watching the extended highlights I’m still unsure how we managed to lose.
Salford had plenty of the ball and looked better in possession but the big chances fell our way and if you took the game in isolation you’d just say dust yourself down and move on to the next one as these smash and grabs happen.
Unfortunately, we are on a poor run of form and losing can become a habit and part of the culture. I really want DD to be a success - watching him on the touch line I could see he cares and was getting more and more agitated as the game went on. But, football is a results business and the only thing you can change is the management team during the Season.
Whatever happened though I loved being back in Holker Street watching an EFL match which I genuinely never believed would happen 10 years ago!

I agree isn’t Chris Taylor only on a short term contract ? I’d let him go and get someone else in may be a loanee from a higher league team who needs game time. I’m surprised DD hasn’t raided Blackburn to borrow some talent as we have had Platt and a few others from there in recent yearsWintergreen wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 8:12 am Really missed Mike Jones yesterday I thought and our marauding wingbacks didn't seem to provide much input as a consequence. Re: Barrow v Salford match thread
We didn’t play wing backs yesterday, it was a flat back 4 so it was understandable the full backs couldn’t get forward as much. The problem then was neither James nor Kay are the type of winger that will hug the touch line for 90 minutes to try and beat their man and whip a cross in. Kay did a few times but James was almost just more of a second right back for most of the gameWintergreen wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 8:12 am Really missed Mike Jones yesterday I thought and our marauding wingbacks didn't seem to provide much input as a consequence
