Signings Review

Post by the ray wilkie stand » Tue Dec 08, 2020 10:30 pm

We are all currently concerned where we are in the league, the signings made by dunn in my opinion havent improved us. My review of them individually below;

James Jones - looked a good acquisition unfortunately a bad injury has put him back hopefully can pick up where he left off. Verdict: Has the potential to be a good signing.

Callum Gribbin - young lad who hasnt really had a sniff. Looks technically like he is more than capable and deserves a chance. Had a very good game vs Wimbledon in the cup must be something going on behind the scenes. Not worked out so far. Verdict: jury's out

Tom Beadling - For me he is not anywhere near the level when playing in midfield offers nothing on the ball goes missing a far cry from what we had last season 4/10 Verdict: not good enough

Chris Taylor - former team mate of Dunns and it shows. scored one free kick against bolton but other than that done very little. Doesnt effect the game plays in little 2 minute spells then disappears liability out of possession defensively if he was our replacement for Rooney we have been had off. Verdict: Not good enough

Mike Jones - Dunns best signing by a distance when he doesn't play we no control of the midfield can see why Carlisle fans were desperate for him to stay. Verdict: Good signing

Scott wilson - getting better and better each week old school defender who just loves to defend. Enjoyed what I've seen so far. Verdict: Good signing

Ntlhe - starter brightly but cant stay fit, doesn't get in our best side. A squad player when fit basnt set the world alight. Verdict: Average

Zouma - no wonder Evatt didnt give him a chance. A liability with the ball at his feet, always out of position. Dunn talks about he athletic ability but unfortunately he cant play football. Verdict: Not good enough

Bobby burns - never settled shipped on as soon as he arrived now a double leg break potentially career ender Verdict: shame but waste of time

Harrison Biggins - showed glimpses in the grimsby game he might be able to play unfortunately not seen anything since, doesn't score goals or get the assists required for a number 10. Not a patch on Rooney the goalscoring midfield we needed to be signed hasnt worked. Verdict: Poor

Hindle - what was the point? Verdict: waste of time

Luke James: gives 100% scored a couple of goals, cant fault this lad. Unfortunately he isnt going to score the goals required. Verdict: Average squad player

Baker-Richardson - on paper sounded a decent signing, injured in his first session another signing with a bad past injury record. Verdict: bad signing if he doesnt recover

Sea: hardly had a kick another who looked good against Wimbledon in the cup. Deserves a chance to atleast show us if hes good enough. Verdict: would like to see more

Jayden Reid: looks lively hasnt had much game time another who may now get a run and can be properly judged. Verdict: Jurys out

Josh Lillis - experienced pro. No.2 handy back up.

Unfortunately not many signings you can say have improved us from last season. This is where Dunn has failed if they dont turn it around soon it will cost him his job.

Couldn’t agree any more with that in honesty. You’ll be asked what did You expect. We’re a newly promoted team and all that usual. But we should have been selling this club to all and sundrie and using that time we had because of covid to build a proper foundation after evatt. I feel this Dunn saga will end in the new year and then We’ll be behind the tide and out of time in the transfer market. I held real hope for this season regardless of the economic climate I felt we could exploit the lack of fans a little bit and it would give us some chance to gel without being blinded by the lights. On paper this team look okay and to me it’s lacking proper leadership. I watched the teams Dunn rolled out after Grayson left Blackpool and I see exactly that same monotony in his tactics here. Nice fella and a great past as a player but this can’t go on. Sorry to have hijacked this somewhat.

Harrison Biggins: Worse player since Ted Cribley.
Gribbin: Best player in the squad

Lets just have a Review of players to date, out injured are- James Jones, Mike Jones, Lewis Hardcastle, Baker Richardson, others that have also been unavailable occasionally- Quigley, Josh Kay, Beadling, Scott Wilson, and Ntlhe, so its been hard losing some of these players to get a settled side, but I agree with many on here we have not appointed the right man as Manager.

other players who have been out either injured or due to Covid include;-

Matty Platt, Patrick Brough, Brad Barry, Johann Zouma, Josh Lillis (Covid), Josh Kay (covid), Callum Gribben (covid).

We've had probably more injuries and covid absentees than any other team that hasn't had to cancel games. Something that looks even worse compared to last season when apart from Josh Granite and Jason Taylor we were very lucky with injuries.

Doesn’t exactly inspire much confidence that things will change come the January transfer window does it

yes we have had a lot of injuries but is it down to luck ? or is it down to signing players with a history of injuries , lack of preparation even Dunn himself said he might have pushed the players too much preseason, just a personal view but we look no where near as fit as last season!

Correct. And unless he was constrained initially and couldn’t get what he wanted due to that, I wouldn’t trust him with my money. 18 players in too many duds and not one of them is an improvement on last year. Equally if we don’t have a big kitty 🐱 for January or any at all , based on what he has done so far, I would have no expectation that he is going to pull any good loan or permanent deals out of the hat.

Also, most of the recruits are not young. I don’t know but I get the impression that our average age is way higher than most . Our policy of recruiting young hungry lads who will impact on the side and grow into significant assets seems to have gone awry

Dunn knew from the beginning that we needed a goal scorer other than Quigley. He didn’t get one and we are suffering.

Time running out I’m afraid.

our fitness levels are not that bad - particularly when you consider that we didn't have a competitive match for 6 or 7 months.
it's certainly no worse than most other teams in L2.

The only very slight disagreement that I'd have with all your points is that I do believe that barring injury James Jones would probably have turned out to be ahead of Sam Hird in the pecking order and he is the only player we have brought in this season who you could see developing into someone who other clubs might want to pay for in the future.

I did not put on players such as Barry or Brough as they have only the odd game out, we could go on forever if the list was including those you have added.
