Re: Southend United FC v Barrow AFC
Today was BAFC in a nutshell, get 7 points from a potential 9 against 3 decent sides then lose against THE worse team I've seen this season. Inconsistency.

Not sure about the kit tbf, it’s just a variant...nothing special.LewisBAFC1901 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 9:02 pm The only positive was the kit looked nice.
Kay is starting to really annoy me, every game it’s a booking for stupidity. Again the same today. As well as loosing the ball at one point and sitting on the floor punching the ground instead of going to win it back. Absolute child, get rid.
Edit - Why is Kay still taking set pieces he’s absolutely horrendous at dead balls , John Rooney wouldn’t put them daft balls in, get it in and put it on a head. Pathetic.
Interestingly enough, I’ve just seen that today’s booking was Kay’s first in 8 games. So he’s kinda cleaned up his act somewhat. Let’s be fair, he also floated a lovely corner to Platt, who had a free header at that back post. Poor execution from MP.

Was also a handball but wasn't picked up by the ref....janwilder wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 9:56 pmNot sure about the kit tbf, it’s just a variant...nothing special.LewisBAFC1901 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 9:02 pm The only positive was the kit looked nice.

Never a handball. Arms down by his side and not at all in an unnatural position. Even by today's ridiculous standards, you can't give handball for that.CH BAFC wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 10:19 pmWas also a handball but wasn't picked up by the ref....janwilder wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 9:56 pm

On Kay taking set pieces, it is absolutely completely and utterly baffling how 3 managers have now had him on them. Yes he picked Platt out with 1 corner today, but I'd pick someone out the odd time if I took enough too. Most of his deliveries are dreadful. Our decisions as to who takes set pieces have been generally baffling all season, again evidenced today when Beadling took that free kick second half in a great position and fired it into the wall. Hardcastle or Taylor should have taken that all day long.

We've also got one point from a possible six under Jolley - guaranteed relegation form...

Covidiot
Steve Herbert supports the nob theory - Saturday 4th February 2012.
If this bus crashed and everybody on it died, Barrow football would end - Daz Boyle, Boston away, August 9th 2014.

Awful performance from an awful team. Jolly now has a window to turn it around, players in players out. And that’s that. Still relying on last years players due to Dunn’s awful recruitment and that’s where we are at. Some of last seasons hero’s don’t look like they can step up which after loosing Rooney probably means we need 8 players which Dunn didn’t manage! Brough platt n Quigley are the ones I’d keep iand hardcastle but he’s been rushed backed because our midfield is a joke

We need 5 players imho but they need to be good enough to be starting 11 players. From yesterday’s team I would replace Hird, Brown, Beadling, Taylor and James.
Obviously there’s Mike Jones and Brad Barry, and Baker Richardson somewhere apparently but who knows when they will be fit.
This is all presuming we are keeping the same formation; if we move to a 4-4-2 or a 4-3-3 we need a left back as well

If we play a flat back 4 Brough would probably be left back.HenneysKnee wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 6:30 amWe need 5 players imho but they need to be good enough to be starting 11 players. From yesterday’s team I would replace Hird, Brown, Beadling, Taylor and James.

I think the worrying thing for me, listening to commentary and reading comments on here, was that they did not show the intensity and desire that we saw only 2 or 3 weeks ago. If they can't do that for a new manager, something is wrong. Against Cheltenham, for example, they seemed to be getting the ball forward more quickly and they scrapped for everything.
Re Kay, he frustrates the hell out of me, but Jolley was quite complimentary about him when asked in his post match interview with Adam. I also thought Jolley might have been more critical of the way the team played, but he was very calm (or downbeat) and restrained.
Re free kicks, the commentary team mentioned that Chris Taylor scored a good goal from a free kick earlier in the season. One swallow...etc ... but he would be another candidate.

Who actually can take free kicks because its like "na mate you take it if you want"
Taylor did nothing today not that some others were better.
James runs and runs but most games hes totally out muscled off the ball and doesn't take chances when crosses are being put in. Quigley didn't get a single chance to shoot at goal ! Southend commentator at start said "Southend look far more physical in the warm up" and most teams are bigger and faster. Yeah we can pass it around, we can play good football but some games like today just are bad to watch ! Scunny next week is vital
"Southend commentator at start said "Southend look far more physical in the warm up" and most teams are bigger and faster."
Exactly, this is what I was saying from the outset of this season.
The four or five players that are coming in need to be not over the hill or on the other hand, youth team players from a premier league side who have been velvet arsed and are not physically or mentally up to the challenges of this league.
From now on in-every week is going to be a tough mental and physical battle....It really, really does now depend on 'who' Michael Jolley brings into the club-for it surely will determine what path our long term future takes.
For most of the clubs that have recently brought new players in they will enjoy more success, will we be one of those clubs?.
I really do now fear the worst.
Re: Southend United FC v Barrow AFC
Terrible today, we must get a midfielder who can hold the ball and pick some passes not one pass went through their defence, Kay is not running the line like he did last season instead he was trying to cut inside every time needs to be left out for a game or two, I would start to play Angus from the start but play him out wide he has pace which we seem to be lacking he played a lot out wide last season and I thought that was his best position worried a few defences, we also got caught out a lot with balls over the top in fact if they were better it could easily have been 3-0. worst two sides I have seen this season.

Re: Southend United FC v Barrow AFC
I still can't get my head around why we still play a back three, if like yesterday if you play with no intensity and move the ball too slowly it's an absolutely pointless formation and people think that it makes you defensively more solid but infact because of 3 defenders sometimes (as we have seen) leads to soft goals because they all leave it for someone else but if I and others can see this what are our coaches telling the players?"chipmunx wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 7:28 amIf we play a flat back 4 Brough would probably be left back.HenneysKnee wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 6:30 am

Re: Southend United FC v Barrow AFC
So we have bottomed out without actually going bottom. But this is the team that dismantled Cheltenham recently and just as we didn’t get carried away with that result, we shouldn’t dwell on this one either. We have a fight on our hands now in our own little survival mini-league, but we do have to fight, from the off, and not just stroke the ball around for most of a game hoping something will break for us somehow. Fortune favours the bold – let’s be bold!!!
