Salford Match Thread
Re: Salford Match Thread
I agree with most said on here, Jolley has signed no better than we had before, there have been too many signings and he has ripped the side to bits why Sam Hird was not playing last night after the abvious shortcomings of the young center back is beyond belief, might be better to send him on Furlough and let the assistant run the team at least he won a couple while he was in charge.
Re: Salford Match Thread
I agree with Nigel about next season, we all really know in our heart of hearts how its going to pan out.
I have the feeling Grimsby are doomed and I feel sorry for their fans because they obviously have troubles within. And that's the devastating part for me in terms of our club who seemed to get everything just about right, except for the one most crucial aspect of life in the football league-the clubs appointment of a man with no real experience of this league. I believe Chris Leach at Carlisle had a good apprenticeship before he got a full time managers post, look at the difference 'he' made to them!.
I, like many of you have hope, we are placing our trust in the potential for something positive to happen sooner rather than later when we know deep down that its odds on that Morecambe will come to town and, for one reason or another walk away with the points while Southend and Stevenage keep chipping away and edging their way to safety, and the comments on here will be almost a carbon copy of last night.

Agree about Sam Hird. Good passer of a ball and experienced defender unlike what he has been replaced with. The assistant manager made it known he did not want the managers job when Dunn was sacked. Having said that we did ok when he was in charge and did try to play football such as the home win against Cheltenham. Since MJ took charge it’s been garbagejaycarter wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 2:28 pm I agree with most said on here, Jolley has signed no better than we had before, there have been too many signings and he has ripped the side to bits why Sam Hird was not playing last night after the abvious shortcomings of the young center back is beyond belief, might be better to send him on Furlough and let the assistant run the team at least he won a couple while he was in charge.

Re: Salford Match Thread
The commentary team seemed to think that, the error apart, Thomas was the stand-out performer and had a decent pass in him - as many here have suggested. And I think you're forgetting that Sam Hird has been guilty of a couple of howlers. Rose-tinted specs.Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 2:58 pmAgree about Sam Hird. Re: Salford Match Thread
Tightened up the defence! You really must be joking!! Before Jolley brought in Thomas and Davies, we had played 5 matches with Kelly more or less in charge of 4 and Jolley for the last one. In the 4 matches with Kelly in charge we played a back 3 of Hird, Platt and Brough and for the last one Jolley changed it to a back 4 with Jones and Platt as central defenders. In those 5 matches we scored 7 goals and conceded 2 and took 10 points from 15. Since Jolley brought in Thomas and Davies we have played 3 matches with them in either a back 3 or a back 4 and scored 1 goal and conceded 5 with 0 points from 9!!!! Not only have his changes NOT tightened the defence but we have also stopped scoring any goals or even looked like scoring a goal!Jim wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 8:37 am I did not watch the game last night and only listened to about 20 mins of first half commentary. However, from what I have seen since Jolley took over, it seems that he has tightened up defence and made us more organised and possibly more composed, but at the expense of any attacking threat. No matter how strong the defence is, someone will always make a mistake. When we concede, one feels there is minimal chance of getting back into the game.
Quigley has been a huge disappointment. I have seen glimpses of the old Quigley when he has been given good passes to run on to and outmuscle the defence, but banging the ball to him at chest height in the final third is predictable and tedious. Oh for a Danny Rowe or similar player!
I didn't expect much from the Salford game as they are a good side. My hope is that now the defence is more or less sorted, Jolley can build on that to introduce more variety and threat at the other end of the pitch.
Re: Salford Match Thread
That’s purely because the Bookies play the mathematical formulas and we have games in hand. They don’t watch our games like we do!HenneysKnee wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 3:00 pm FWIW the bookies relegation odds are

Re: Salford Match Thread
Although I agree with most of what your saying we did end up playing our last 4 games against Bradford, Salford twice and Cambridge who are all in good form and like Carlisle who have had to wait for games they are finding it difficult and they were in fine form before all these games stopped form them due to weather and covid. We aren't getting a run of games together and we have more tough games to come in February but we are struggling to create or score and im hoping that was purely playing against really good teams.russell_anderson wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 3:41 pmTightened up the defence! Re: Salford Match Thread
Find it a bit baffling / interesting so many seem to mention about playing good and attractive football, I couldn't give a hoot how we play if we actually pick up points, especially with the situation we are in!

Re: Salford Match Thread
Concentrated to keep in league two this year. after we will think in other seaseon.
any point count, now not is important to play good, only count the points to win
If not change the results no way to keep this league.
These matches all are finals! the players must be put all of them to go on!
From Uruguay I wish all the luck
