Here are the teams from the programme for Mansfield's last visit for a Football League game, in Division 3 on 13th September 1969. This was the second of a run of nine consecutive defeats which left us pretty much nailed on for relegation by mid October. The referee for this game was Ivan Robinson, who went down in Holker Street folklore the previous season when he 'scored' the goal that beat Plymouth. Unfortunately he was unable to repeat that feat on this occasion.
Mansfield's last FL visit to Holker Street
Re: Mansfield's last FL visit to Holker Street
Looking at that team, there were some good players and it seems surprising that they went on such a bad run. Did it start when Colin Appleton was stricken with appendicitis?
Re: Mansfield's last FL visit to Holker Street
Appleton left due to ill health the previous season - this was Bodell's team. I never rated Cooper, Davis, Street, Garbett or Brown compared to the players they replaced.

Re: Mansfield's last FL visit to Holker Street
Today, it will be the first EFL league fixture at Barrow since then, although the sides met in the Conf around a decade ago. Some previous games mark firsts: The Barrow 2-1 victory at home on August 23, 2008 was Mansfield's first-ever defeat in the Conf, and the most recent fixture between the sides at Mansfield on October 27, 2020 marked Barrow's first victory in the EFL since April 22, 1972, when Workington were beaten 2-0 at Barrow. Last October, Barrow won 4-2 against an on the night poor Mansfield side, and the result also led to the departure of Graham Coughlan a few hours later, now replaced by Nigel Clough, who in fact has managed against the Bluebirds before, and he did so for Burton Albion in a goal-less draw on October 7, 2008. But since the game at One Call Stadium last October, Barrow have changed bosses twice as David Dunn and his then successor Michael Jolley both have departed.
Last time out at Barrow, Mansfield won to a 4-0 scoreline, but to be fair, the scoreline was a bit too high as Barrow had a penalty of their own saved when the game was still goal-less. Difference then: to have and not to have a proven goal-scorer.
No game between the sides in all competitions have ended goal-less.
Here are the facts, including last time the sides clashed:
