Bigger Achievement
Bigger Achievement
For me it's a no brainer. Interesting to see what others think.

Re: Bigger Achievement
The staying up.
In a normal year it wouldn’t be that because the promoted teams usually do stay up but with everything that has happened (and that’s only the stuff we know about, sounds like there’s been a lot worse behind closed doors!) off the field it’s a massive achievement

Re: Bigger Achievement
I'd say promotion personally.
But can see an argument for staying up as we made it very hard for ourselves. Harder than it ever should've been.

Can't disagree with that. Dunn's 2 wins from 20 or so games was the platform which nearly took us down. Jolley was just a disaster. But thankfully Rob saw us home. We definitely need to be better at choosing managers if Rob doesn't want the gig.

Re: Bigger Achievement
Just a thought.......Hird as manager next season, with Kelly as assistant.....??
Re: Bigger Achievement
Getting in to EFL for me otherwise we wouldn't be having this poll!! But it's a close call.

For me it would be Kelly, McDonald and Hird or McDonald,Kelly and Herd, depending if Kelly wants the top job.
I just hope the Board don't have their heads turned by pariah agents wanting to flog so-called big names.
Re: Bigger Achievement
I thought we were a goner after Morecambe - just couldn't see where the next win was coming from, and so it's the turnaround since then which swayed me towards voting staying up. However, promotion was perhaps all the more remarkable because we hadn't come remotely close to the EFL for years. If were exiting the NL it was more likely to be to the Conference North. Promotion was totally out of the blue and nobody could have predicted it (other than Evatt perhaps). Staying in the League shouldn't perhaps have been as hard as we made it, but having got in such a mess, to stay up was a miracle.

Re: Bigger Achievement
Promotion 'cos of the quality of our football, sometimes un-playable
Re: Bigger Achievement
Agreed, but would we have got the automatic promotion spot when we were due to play Harrogate away?ossickbluebird wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 7:08 pm Promotion 'cos of the quality of our football, sometimes un-playable
All immaterial now, and obviously glad it worked out as it did, but we now need to consolidate as much as we can.

Re: Bigger Achievement
No comparison. Promotion by a distance. Better manager, better team, better football. We would have been the first team promoted from the National League to be relegated the following season so survival was more of a relief than an achievement.

Re: Bigger Achievement
Difficult choice. Last season was a dream . This season a nightmare. I think going down would have hurt far more than not going up because we’d probably never go up again. Given the situation in January, I’d say staying up.

Re: Bigger Achievement
We were 4 points clear of Harrogate & we had a game in hand, They still had the Trophy 2 legged SF to play, I honestly believe we would have been champions, Be we will never know.barrowfan wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 9:45 pmAgreed, but would we have got the automatic promotion spot when we were due to play Harrogate away?ossickbluebird wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 7:08 pm Promotion 'cos of the quality of our football, sometimes un-playable
