Well this thread shows just how fickle we are as fans. A sniff of one of our most consistent and most professional players leaving and all of a sudden he’s replaceable, too small etc. Absolute joke.

Joel has been a huge part of everything good about Barrow recently and I’ll be very sad to see him go but if he does happen to go to a Bolton or better then I wish him all the luck in the world.

I would tend to agree with most of that, with a caveat that I think he has improved hugely over the last couple of seasons in particular in terms of dealing with balls into the box and his kicking. He's not one of those keepers who you recall ever making an outstanding save though and never has been. By that I mean he makes the saves you would expect a keeper to make which is fine, but he rarely makes one of those saves that makes you stop and think 'what a save that was'. In fact, on those occasions where there is opportunity for him to make that kind of save the ball invariably ends up in the back of the net. He is also prone to the odd mistake, and when people say that he's only made two this season I think that is actually two that have led to goals. There have been others that haven't.

That said, I would be more than happy if he were to stay and we were to start next season with him still as our number one. There is also something to be said for the fact that he's been with the club 6 seasons now, which I think makes him our longest serving player for quite some time. He is replaceable though and probably with someone who is an all round better goalkeeper too. If he moved on it wouldn't hugely concern me.

Yeh he has been a good servant to the club but we will find someone as good if not better not sure Dixon would be in my top barrow goalies but he has been alright

Worked well for Bolton this year… if it was nt for their keeper the young lad they d have wrapped the league up by now.

For every Dixon theres a Jamie Speare’s roulette spin keepers. Imagine where we would have been if Dixon was riddled with mistakes National League fine fine margins.

It’s football, players come players go, manager’s come manager’s go, the only constant at the club is us, the supporters. Joel has done well for us over the seasons, improving in the last 2. There was a time he was prone to coming out of his box too early, too far. I recall him several times colliding with our centre backs ,infact wiping them out several times. I cannot In all honesty see Bolton signing him.
