We should avoid them like the plague.
When Vaughan pulled the plug and we managed to stay up but the Conference demoted us,they lobbied for us to be relegated down two leagues.
Talk about kicking someone when they are down.
Radio Carlisle had the representative of Workington think it was the Chairman spouting bile about our predicament .

And we’ve played them in leagues and friendlies since, whose arsed

If we play them in a league or cup game you have too anything else personally for me it's a no,but it's about values or lack of them.

Re: Pre season friendlies
I’d like to see us up against the likes of Burnley, Blackburn, Preston off the top of my head. Good standard and high level North West sides who we could maybe even loan players from, as I know we’ve done in the past.
Re: Pre season friendlies
But surely that all applies to the time in question. Are the individuals associated with those clubs still involved? Any club is bigger than its stewards. Maybe fans of other clubs had an issue with Barrow when Vaughan was the owner (for example) Why should they continue to hold that grudge now?Pedro wrote: ↑Fri May 14, 2021 12:14 amIf we play them in a league or cup game you have too anything else personally for me it's a no,but it's about values or lack of them.LewisBAFC1901 wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 4:54 pm And we’ve played them in leagues and friendlies since, whose arsed
Re: Pre season friendlies
Well if we are crossing the water on tour we should add Eriskay, Walney Island and Barrow Island...
Bring it on!

We shouldn’t be playing against non league sides; why haven’t we got Real Madrid coming to Holker Street?

Seeing as we’re in the middle of May nowMain Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 5:40 pm What if the new manager does not fancy these friendlies ?
I’m sure the new manager once sorted and appointed would rather have a pre season sorted as opposed to maybe having a month - couple of weeks to make arrangements
Re: Pre season friendlies
Absolutely spot on Adam. Whoever gets the job would want things sorted out before he got here. Pre season friendlies are all about getting players match fit, and checking on player's abilities, and whether they are able to be a "team" player etc.Adam29 wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 5:42 pmSeeing as we’re in the middle of May nowMain Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 5:40 pm What if the new manager does not fancy these friendlies ?

It doesn't matter who they are playing and at what level. The results are irrelevant as well. It's all about team bonding.
Re: Pre season friendlies
I've often wondered why, by way of a change, we do not invite some south of Scotland teams - Queen of the South, Annan Athletic are just across the border and we are never likely to bump into them in competition.
Re: Pre season friendlies
Sure Barrow have played the likes of Motherwell and Stenhousemuir in recent years. However, the Scottish season tends to be 2-3 weeks ahead of England so pre-season schedules are not in sync. In Scotland we also now have cup games in July so there isn't much time for travelling.
Re: Pre season friendlies
If I recall correctly, Stenhousemuir wasn't a 'friendly' occasion.
