He is a hero and a legend at Villa. I was not aware we had him in common. How many other ex Barrow players scored the winner in a European Cup final? He is the only player in Villa's history who managed that accolade

Well theres Alan Kennedy. He played for us in his early 40s !

Im an ex Barrow boys footy player.. and proud to say i was the first English captain to lift the European cup as i was captain of my junior school footy team. (really yea) we visited scotland for three days ... watched a match.. Played a match..(3-3 ) stayed at our opponents houses.. and then visited Celtics Ground a week after they won European cup and we were allowed to hold the european cup in their trophy room. Someone must have the pics! lol.. Cant be many to have held that cup eh!

Hi VillaFan.. Look up a player called Tony Field. scored the winner that got us promoted to the old 3rd division back in the day. Think you will find he went on to play in america with pele etc when the yanks first went into the game big time.

In total I can only find 3 players who have pulled on the Barrow and Villa shirt. Dimitri Sea, Peter Withe (once for you, quite a few games for us), and Jordan Bowery who played 4 games for you in 2009 and went on to make 14 appearances for us.
We have of course never met at senior level. Apparently on 11th December 1920 our central league reserve team had a free week and so journeyed up to Barrow for a friendly. 6000 watched we came from behind to win 2-1.

John Burridge played for villa and sure he played for us early 90s possibly at Gainsborough as I was there

I have friends who live over in Skipton. They have no affiliation to any club in particular but will go and watch Morecambe-Preston Fleetwood etc when they have a big game. They came to watch Barrow against Colne Dynamo all those years ago and went to support us at the Stadium of Light-the Riverside and Wembley in 2010. They frequent the 'Fleece' in Skipton, its been their watering hole for years and apparently they are wanting to bring a full minibus over for the Villa game. It just shows the interest that's being created and what a scramble for tickets there is gonna be !.

One of the Barrow born players who doesn't get talked about so much is goalkeeper Gary Westwood.

Gary joined Ipswich Town as an apprentice in 1981. Finding first team opportunities hard to come by, he gained experience in a series of loan deals at Crystal Palace, Charlton Athletic, Peterborough and at Reading in 1983.

Gary’s League career was confined to games played at Reading. After a successful loan period at Elm Park, in which he celebrated 3 clean sheets in 5 games, his signing was made permanent in July 1984.

After taking over from Alan Judge in September 1984, Gary never missed a game for two and half seasons which meant he was ever-present during Reading’s runaway Third Division championship win in 1985/86 - the season that Reading established a League record of winning the first 11 games of the season.

This is going way off subject.......but here's another one: Barrow-born Glen Johnson, goalkeeper, signed for Arsenal (no games); Doncaster (95); Walsall (3, loan); and Aldershot (as a league club) where he played 424 games.
We played golf together as kids up at Rakesmoor Lane.

I remember Joe Humphries was sports teacher and ran the school team We had a great team
It would have been 1959 i think Emlyn then went on to Risedale secondary school
