Yes, Emlyn did go to Risedale and I played for Barrow Grammar School against him in the Lancashire Schools Competition at U15 level (although Emlyn was still U14). We beat them by a huge score (something like 8-1 if I remember) and got to the quarter final that year where we drew 4-4 at St George's School from Blackpool and then lost the replay 3-2 after leading 2-0 with 8 mins left! St George's had John Hurst who went on to play for Everton and England and went on to win the competition. Keith Eddy was captain of that BGS team.up and under wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 10:54 amWould that be South Newbarns junior schoolant wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 12:58 am Im an ex Barrow boys footy player.. and proud to say i was the first English captain to lift the European cup as i was captain of my junior school footy team. (really yea) we visited scotland for three days ... watched a match.. I remember Joe Humphries was sports teacher and ran the school team We had a great team

Do we get a fee for being on Sky this season?
Re: Barrow v Aston Villa
Yes I played for South Newbarns under Joe Humphries. It would be 1959 I think. I remember a cup final at Dalton Railway Meadow that went to 3 replays. We lost in the end but I got a miniature 'losers' cup'up and under wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 10:54 am

In the 3rd round last season Lincoln expected to receive £125,000 for their tie against Liverpool. Add on perimeter advertising, sponsorship opportunities etc.
Don't let the old man in.

Joe Humphries also used to run the Barrow and District U18 rep side where he used to send us out for cross country runs and follow us in his car. As one of the ones who was always at the back it was a bit worrying when he was driving right behind us. Joe was a really nice chap who everybody liked and he was also was a good coach.Jim wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 4:41 pmYes I played for South Newbarns under Joe Humphries. It would be 1959 I think. Villa fan in peace...
Looking forward to this game, it should be fun. Hopefully we will get the away draw and then take u back to a full Villa Park and in front of 42,000 fans I think we should be able to get the win and safely through to the next round.

Don't forget Mark Cooper and Richard Dryden are both former Blues players and Marks dad Terry was a former manager...andyg wrote: ↑Thu Aug 12, 2021 12:14 amwe are here. My wife (and all her family ) are Villa fans and some season ticket holders and she is seriously not happy with the draw!!! A divorce might be pending. I'm over the moon with the draw. Either way we can't lose and if we get Sky even better.
We have an ex Villa youth team player with us Dimitri Sea who got our winner last night to put us through to this round. Plus an ex Blue (I know you love them) Rameno Hutton

My mum and dad were good friends of Emlyns parents, I'm sure it was 1972, so he was playing for Liverpool and England, he came to pick them up from our house and he was sat on the sofa with me as an 11 year old asking me who I played for, I'll never forget that nightrussell_anderson wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 4:31 pmYes, Emlyn did go to Risedale and I played for Barrow Grammar School against him in the Lancashire Schools Competition at U15 level (although Emlyn was still U14). A Villa fan here. Just a few things, it would be great if we continue as normal to give up our share of the gate receipts to one of the smaller clubs (no disrespect whatsoever meant)
Whatever allocation we are given it will go within 5 or 10 mins - pre season away at Bristol City we sold out in 15 mins. We have a strong away following and Barrow being one of the few clubs we have never visited will be an added attraction.
I actually think your in with a chance if Dean Smith starts with what would be deemed squad players. Our first 11 is good but cut into it and bench or developing players are hit and miss. Anyway I've been invited to a local cricket club in Barrow before the match so looking forward to the evening.

No disrespect to villa but this and the fa cup must be the main chances of silverware, I'm sure they will want to take it seriouslywittonwarrior wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 8:46 pm A Villa fan here. Be a fringe squad they focus on the league they ll only play first teamers in latter rounds seems to be the pattern.Bingo wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 9:56 pmNo disrespect to villa but this and the fa cup must be the main chances of silverware, I'm sure they will want to take it seriouslywittonwarrior wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 8:46 pm A Villa fan here.
