It was a very entertaining game with Barrow being pegged back twice before sealing the victory. 100 minutes of end-to-end action made this more like a cup tie. Zanzala’s fantastic solo effort 2 minutes 25 seconds in was a superb curtain-raiser, winning the ball by the right touchline on the halfway line, sprinting down the wing and then into the area to slide the ball inside the left post. At the other end, Burey was a continuous threat, an incisive run down the left being snuffed out at the last second four minutes before he levelled for the visitors in the 17th minute with a header from Sterry’s cross.
Less than two minutes into the second half we regained the lead, Brough’s excellent cross being turned in by Gordon. Three minutes later, Sterry’s deflected free kick was well held by Farman. Sea replaced Zanzala, then on the hour Goodwin pegged Barrow back again as the goalfest continued. Kay then replaced Williams and Banks shot wide from distance in the 68th minute. Arthur was then booked for fouling Burey and was promptly replaced by Brown.
The winner arrived three minutes later in the 72nd minute as Kay assisted Sea to slot in from from close-range.
Five minutes later Sea went down injured; after treatment and then going down again with concussion he had to be replaced by fourth substitute James. The ensuing ten minutes of added time were nail-biting at times but the well-battled three points were ours. Attendance 2,846 including 619 visiting fans, and today’s victory can only encourage still more Barrow fans to come along on Tuesday to the Exeter game.
