Re: Barrow v Aston Villa match thread
Barrow bowed out of the Carabao Cup at the hands of Aston Villa despite a battling performance in front of a sell-out crowd at The Dunes Hotel Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The Bluebirds started with a spring in their step, roared on by an enthusiastic crowd, and Ollie Banks whipped a dangerous freekick across the Villa box which flashed wide at the far post.
However, Dean Smith’s visitors were in front on ten minutes when a sweeping move down the left saw the ball fed low across the six-yard area where Cameron Archer was able to rifle home the opening goal.
Carney Chukwuemeka could have made it 2-0 just after the 20 minutes mark when he showed strength and skill to wriggle away from a couple of challenge, but his low drive was well held by Paul Farman.
A couple of minutes later it was 2-0 though. Josh Gordon clipped the heels of Archer in the area and Anwar El Ghazi chipped a cheeky Panenka penalty down the middle to double Villa’s advantage.
There were appeals for a spot kick at the other end not long afterwards when Offrande Zanzala went down under pressure, but the referee was well positioned and was unmoved.
Former Birmingham City man Remeao Hutton almost helped The Bluebirds reduce the arrears when he did well to find space to cross from the right but Zanzala’s looping header was agonisingly too high.
The game was over as a contest in first half injury time when another decisive move from Villa was finished off El Ghazi who swept home at the far post for 3-0.
Barrow made a spirited start to the second period and could have pulled a goal back when Zanzala teed Banks up on the edge of the box and he cleverly side-stepped into space and drove an effort on goal which keeper Jed Steer did brilliantly to turn away down to his left.
However, just after the hour it was Villa who got their fourth when Archer raced clear on the right side, and he produced a wonderful, clipped finish over Farman as he advanced from his line.
To their credit, Barrow kept going and Patrick Brough had a couple of half chances, first shooting into the side-netting before planting a header just over the bar from a corner.
It was therefore particularly harsh on The Bluebirds when Villa grabbed a fifth goal fifteen minutes from time. Farman did well to save at the feet of Jaden Philogene-Bidace but when the ball fell loose it was rattled home by Frederic Guilbert.
There was even time for Cameron Archer to complete his hat-trick late on, profiting from some brilliant play from Philogene-Bidace, whose incisive pass put it on a plate for his teammate to make it 6-0.

Boys vs multi millionaire players
think any team in leauge 2 would get spanked, different game, into Saturday with a wadful of cash

Re: Barrow v Aston Villa match thread
Not sure how to think about that. There was always going to be a gulf in class even with the fringe players but I felt it was too easy for them at times, and possibly tried to drag them down a level. However, really enjoyed the night despite the scoreline.
On that showing Villa have a number of bright young players.

Re: Barrow v Aston Villa match thread
we tried our best but their forwards were too quick ,we had a few moments but didn't put our chances away.
Re: Barrow v Aston Villa match thread
in his after match interview Mark Cooper described his teams performance as "crap" and, went on to bemoan the teams lack of a grass playing surface to work his team on-instead of just a "nice shiny gym".
He also said that the money made from tonight's game should be put into the 'Training Infrastructure'.
He was not at all happy with Barrows training facilities.

If that's true then Hornby saying that Cooper's happy with our training facilities was total fabrication!mall wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 10:21 pm in his after match interview Mark Cooper described his teams performance as "crap" and, went on to bemoan the teams lack of a grass playing surface to work his team on-instead of just a "nice shiny gym".

Re: Barrow v Aston Villa match thread
He sounded very frustrated in his interview. Saying he is a coach but has no grass to use to coach the players. He said he has 14 fit players. When asked about injured players he said Sea is close. Devitt and jones he said its not weeks more like months. All in all he sounded very despondentmall wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 10:21 pm in his after match interview Mark Cooper described his teams performance as "crap" and, went on to bemoan the teams lack of a grass playing surface to work his team on-instead of just a "nice shiny gym".

Give Cooper the tools and all will be wellmall wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 10:21 pm in his after match interview Mark Cooper described his teams performance as "crap" and, went on to bemoan the teams lack of a grass playing surface to work his team on-instead of just a "nice shiny gym".

That's when a decent manager shines. Wilkie's side hardly trained together at all.mall wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 10:21 pm in his after match interview Mark Cooper described his teams performance as "crap" and, went on to bemoan the teams lack of a grass playing surface to work his team on-instead of just a "nice shiny gym".

Generally doesn't sound like a positive bloke in general, could have won 3-0 and he'd still be dissatisfied with something.....

Re: Barrow v Aston Villa match thread
Excellent crowd of 5,349 including 662 visiting fans enjoyed a match that would have been more competitive were it not for the fitness and lightning speed of the Villa attack, and Barrow not converting at least three really good chances. There were also two controversial penalty decisions in quick succession, one given for Villa and the next not given for Barrow.
In the 9th minute, Barrow's man of the match Ollie Banks (who put in accurate balls all night) placed a free kick just wide of the right post. A minute later Villa scored, El Ghazi feeding Archer for the first of his hat-trick.
In the 24th minute, Philogene-Bidace was brought down in the box by Gordon, El Ghazi converting. A minute late, Zanzala was pushed down, but Barrow’s penalty appeals were waved away.
Despite the continual threat of quick counters, Barrow fashioned two really good chances, a 37th minute cross from Hutton finding Zanzala who headed just over the bar. Six minutes later, a Zanzala shot brought one of the lights down in the Holker end stand, a half-time ovation being given to the repair man with the long ladder.
Villa then made it three deep into the two minutes of added time, cutting through our defence at speed and enabling El Ghazi to slide the ball in from close range at the left post.
If the three-goal margin flattered the visitors, another three-goals would fly in as the second half progressed, despite some good possession and battling football from Barrow. Archer would score two more, and in between Guilbert got on the scoresheet.
Again we had chances. Less than two minutes in, a well-worked move by White and Zanzala gave Banks a shot which Steer did well to steer round the post. Six minutes later, Banks had another opportunity with a free kick.
Villa were deserved winners, giving an impressive masterclass in fast incisive attacking but we were worth a consolation goal at least! Let’s hope that we can carry some crowd momentum forward at home on Saturday against Joey Barton’s Bristol Rovers.

Behave yourself. Cooper clearly feels like he is having his own pants pulled down a bit. He has come from FGR who are clearly a professional outfit in how they operate. I think MC is more than a little naffed off with the circumstances he is having to work under. The club need to sort it out and quickly otherwise we will be looking for yet another manager.
