Barrow v Aston Villa match thread
Re: Barrow v Aston Villa match thread
Money in the bank, a few handy young players in that villa side, hopefully we've established a few links we can call upon in the future, however it's back to real business on Saturday which is much more important.
By the sounds of the interviews given after the game Hornby and Co best get the training facilities sorted pretty quick, less of the cow muck in the programme notes and more action!
I like Cooper he's not here to make friends he's here to win and he's not messing about or pulling any punches. His honesty can only improve us, that is if we act. Its all about standards, not having a grass pitch to train on as a football league side is a shambles, especially at this stage of a season, get it sorted!

Re: Barrow v Aston Villa match thread
That pass was world class, It was almost a no look slide pass as he half turned away & it split 3 or 4 defenders & putt it on a plate for him.
Re: Barrow v Aston Villa match thread
Genuinely gutted for you that it was such a big number as it could have the opposite affect of galvanising the team, or the town getting behind the team. However, amongst the inward looking analysing, it has to be pointed out that this is probably the best crop of youngsters Villa have had for about 50 years. Not only winning the FA Youth Cup last season but also breaking into the first team training squad, to match day squad, and then making debuts. It has to be remembered that no-one was making their debut last night and only Ramsey/ Archer hasn't played any league minutes for us. (Actually not sure about Ramsey - maybe it was his debut)
Chukmuemeka is very highly rated and expected to become a first team regular in the not too distant future
Philogene-Bidace is also very highly rated. He and Chukwuememka are not likely to be loaned as we want to keep them around the first-team fringes and they are likely to be on the bench in league games more often than not, picking up minutes - and experience - as often as is possible.
Ramsey - the younger brother of Jacob who has broken into the first team (mainly due to injuries but played often last season) captained the FA Youth Cup winning team and is rated higher than his brother.
Archer - already covered. He will probably go out on loan as he is unlikely to get minutes with Watkins/Ings in his way.
On top of that Matt targett was close to a Euro 2020 call-up so he is a recognised first-team player, as is Nakamba, El Ghazi and Hourihane is unlucky to find his path blocked by the many bright kids we've got coming through.
You are probably the only league club other than Villa to see the quality we have coming through our ranks at youth team level, so I wouldn't be overly harsh on yourself, because media hopes aside it was never looking likely that we'd lose. I think we played Crewe this time last season and put 6 past them. That didn't end too badly for them.

Re: Barrow v Aston Villa match thread
Having watched the game I thought we started off quite well, but it showed how much better at passing the ball they were than us.At times we couldn,t even get near them. Our team tried their best and never stopped ,but the gulf in class showed.I just hope the lads aren,t too demoralised and put this game behind them.I was surprised at the physicality of the Aston Villa players on Zanzala and how much they were allowed to get away with.
I agree that the lack of proper training facilities must be having an effect and hope they soon have a pitch to train on,because without it our results will deteriorate.
I will be turning up on Saturday ,hoping this match has become a distant memory and now it is out of the way we concentrate on improving our league position.

Lots to ponder over last night!
1. The speed not only of thought but execution and raw pace of the Villa team.
Amazing to watch some of the movement speed of thought and finishing in the flesh last night.
2. How Clinical Villa were.
Hardly squandered an opportunity some fantastic goals
3. The Gulf between us!
Mahoosive, some of our younger players would of learnt a lot last night of what to aspire to and some of our older players would feel like they had ‘twisted blood’ this morning.
4. How the club coped with a sell out crowd.
Heard many positives but definitely more vending points needed for food and drinks seemed to be the main gripes with variety an issue also.
Felt Zanzala got no protection from Martin Coy. Banks, Hutton and Brough and Williams when he came on did ok. But we are on the bones of our arses as a squad, two keepers named on the bench last night, lose anymore players at this stage then Cooper and Dryden might have to kit up

Re: Barrow v Aston Villa match thread
Gulf in class. We worked hard to try and get near them but they were fitter, sharper and great first touch. The Zanzala penalty would have changed the feel of the game but the pace of the Villa lads was frightening. We got nowt from ref which is no surprise when the big boys come to town, seen it all before. Great save from Banks shot, we played some decent football at times. Short plays from free kicks is a waste if time as we are not good enough to work it round them. Bit diff in league 2 but still annoys me. Great crowd, good atmosphere, Villa were excellent, their fans were gracious pity that wasn't the case for El Ghazi. Now more important fish to fry...3 points Saturday please.
Stood behind Ray Wilkie for years. Best education I ever had.
Re: Barrow v Aston Villa match thread
Villa starting line up had 324 premiership appearances between them, that puts it into prospective.
Re: Barrow v Aston Villa match thread
I have just watched the Sky 10 minutes highlights. Just one way traffic for the whole 10 mins. Not a Barrow shot (someone mentioned there was a Banks effort and save), nor the penalty incident with Zanzala. I know we were 'outclassed', but surely they could have showed something?
Re: Barrow v Aston Villa match thread
To be fair to El Ghazi he was getting grief off the popular side so no problem for methegaffer77 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 11:43 am Gulf in class. A few people at work said they joined that massive queue (from holker end to asda ) but didn`t realise they could have gone straight to the popular side, as no one was there to ask!
