I don’t think the players would understand your political acumen, they’d just hear some idiot in the stand booing. We just beat Oldham away and we’re in a golden age of football with the board backing/ manager/ young talented players we have, let’s just stick to football not politics eh?

I did not start this 'thread' as you would see by reading previous comments and would prefer to discuss the fantastic display from all the Barrow players but if a 'idiot' in your opinion wants to boo that is his right.

Names of soccer players are very different these days, many very exotic and some difficult to pronounce. But seeing the Jimmy Frizzell stand at Boundary Park yesterday set me thinking that I have never known of anybody else with the name Frizzell, inside or outside of football. What a great name, almost an old-fashioned comic-book footballer's name. But who was Jimmy Frizzell? Actually he was a great Oldham stalwart, ten years as a player and then another twelve as a manager. Obviously I am delighted that we beat them yesterday but at the same time I hate to see any small club having a crisis as all small clubs have their work cut out to keep going. I guess Oldham could do with a few extraordinary characters like Frizzell at the moment. Below is an EM picture of him in action at Holker Street on 7th October 1968. Barrow won 2-1 and this was just weeks before we hit the very summit of the old Division 3 (if only for less than a day). Between the two Jimmy's, Frizzell and Mulholland, we can see Brian Arrowsmith in the distance. The picture is looking towards the Holker Street end in the distance.

We've given Zanzala a showcase for his talents and whatever his value was has probably doubled in the first month of the season. Banks looks like a totally new player. Whites performances pose serious questions regarding the mentality of those who let him go to Bolton last season. Also both Gordon and Hutton have been refreshingly good (you should have read the comments of Stevenage and Walsall fans on these guys when we signed them to understand the significance of that).

I think we have a manager who knows how to set a team up and expalins clearly what is expected of each player. Also, who makes it clear when not happy (as he said in his interview re Zanzala). Perhaps that is why some players are doing better under his management than they did at previous clubs. Those who were with us last season must welcome the change (though no disrespect meant to Kelly, who set them up well with limited resources in a sort of danage limitation format).

Plus Paul Oldham used to wear those bright orange shirts which were quite unique in those far-away day's!

Apparently MC in his interview gave Zanzala a bit of a "talking to" at half time resulting in his great goal in the second half. I thought Zanzala was decent in the first half as well - shows how much I know of football tactics. Wouldn't like to mess with MC even when he's in a good mood. Think we know who is in charge of the dressing room!

Just watched the highlights. How did we get away without a penalty late on in second half when Banks leaned on their number 8 then pushed him on the neck with the ref watching just two or three yards away?

Must admit, it felt a bit eerie before the game without any pre-match music and announcements of teams etc over the tannoy. Not sure it helped with there being very few home fans with masses of empty seats all over the place.

Interviews after the game praised the fans and the numbers we turned up in and the vocal support. Any chance of getting a Gazebo or something similar in town on Friday selling tickets and maybe a bit of merch? Said it before but a connection with the town would be beneficial. Appreciate we don't have a large amount of staff but can this be worked into someone's duties before home games?
