Re: Bradford v Barrow match thread
Well I went there wanting to see their ground (which is impressive) but fully expecting a loss, especially with the amount of players we have out at the moment.
After a fairly poor season so far Kay played very very well…and that tackle at the end - absolute class!
Banks slotted into his role really well and didn’t look out of place at all. Hutton definitely had an off day, he even looked sluggish going forward, can’t knock him though as he’s been very good all season. Good to see us creating so many chances, disappointing so many were wasted though.
After a decentish first half the ref crumbled in the second 45 and gave everything to Bradford.
Great trip out in the mini bus, a fantastic pub in Bingley for food and ale, and add to that a point and it’s been a good day all round.

We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

I don't have the figures to back this up, but if my memory isn't playing tricks there was a very big crowd for Orient away, our penultimate game in 1969-70. The home side had just clinched promotion to division 2, whilst we were headed in the opposite direction. No doubt someone will have the figures.

Yeah, very interesting question. The records show that the last time we had an attendance higher than today's for a League match was back in our old 3rd Division days . . . on September 20th 1969 when we lost 2-0 at Brighton in front of 20,936.xerxes wrote: ↑Sat Sep 18, 2021 8:08 pmI was just wondering that myself. Xerxes, the Orient game you referred to was on 4th April 1970 and drew an attendance of 12,742 . . . excellent, but little more than half the Brighton attendance.

Take your point Adam but still think those who have radios with DAB will be in the minority.Adam29 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 18, 2021 8:32 pmI think the plan is both clubs will be on DAB as there will be a way to split the DAB signals due to where the different parts of the county receive their signalbluessupporter wrote: ↑Sat Sep 18, 2021 8:14 pm
There was a question on the post-match about why they couldn't split to put Barrow on one frequency and Carlisle on the other.
The answer was that it isn't technically possible at the moment. It should be at the end of the year when the station gets DAB and AM is phased out.
I think that presents its own problems, as quite a lot of people won't have radios with DAB. If they decide to put Barrow on DAB they will be snookered again.
Also DAB in the car can jump in and out unlike FM, which is generally quite stable.
We shall see.

Re: Bradford v Barrow match thread
Interesting day. Enjoyed the game and thought Cooper did really well with team selection. Felt like everybody was playing in at least two positions. Kay was my MOTM. But Banks is certainly player of the season so far. He was brilliant. Bantams fans that I spoke to generally thought we should have won it. We certainly had the cleArest cut chances.
Quite a trip back across the Pennines. Barrow fans became the meat in a Burnley/ Blackburn sandwich and it all got a bit spicy.Train held at Burnley whilst the Transport Police called and removed Blackburn fans onto the streets of Burnley - seemed a bit odd. Then there was the strange case of the sixteen year old kid who was spotted by Big Cass the BTP officer carrying a holdall and looking like he was on another planet and who ended up being carted off at Preston. Even at Preston I found myself being accosted by an over friendly and well lubricated Tranmere fan in the gents.
However quote of the day whilst all the rumpus was going on at Burnley and the train was filling with Police must go to the Barrow fan who piped up “Liam have you got any pickled eggs left?”. Quite a day.

A really good point and really good game.
Hutton definitely an off day, and thought Kay had a good game.
Probably harsh but we aren’t great at defending, we concede a lot of shots and chances.
Taylor is great but I’d like to see white getting more game time. I get the feeling if white was 6 foot 2 he’d get in the midfield.

Tom White is a good player but Cooper will put Banks back into midfield v Newport with Gotts & Stevens unless any of them are injured White will warm the bench.

Re: Bradford v Barrow match thread
Great day out and a well deserved point thanks to a fabulous goal from Kay who was definitely MOTM. Stevens, Banks, Brough and Gotts also excellent but the whole team put in a shift.
Whilst it is easy to point the finger at Farman and Hutton for the goal, in reality it should never have got that far, but as had happened for much of the game Taylor's lack of pace was exposed. Taylor has done so many great things over the past few seasons but the game is happening around him now.
Bradford fans were great pre and post match. Unexpectedly sunny weather was a bonus. Let's get Platt and a few others fit and see what we can do this season. Bring on Newport on Friday night.

Seeing the interview am glad we got Kay back.... made a game saving tackle and goal, seems to have mellowed out under cooper and knows the dressing room well from the evatt era.... think he is gonna be a valuable player this season and one to keep.

Great ground, great atmosphere from Barrow fans, the craft ale pubs along North Parade were fantastic, their fans we met were the friendliest I have met they even bought us a drink. Good day all round
Re: Bradford v Barrow match thread
A really enjoyable day out a stopover for breakfast and a pint in Manchester then onward to Bradford and our boozer of choice the Corn Dolly bathed in glorious sunshine high above the impressive looking Bradford City ground. Some cracking ales and ciders on offer all served with friendly supporters of both sides chatting with anticipation over what we had in waiting come three o’clock.
We started well playing with discipline at the back but power and pace from midfield and attack causing them problems Kay scoring a peach of a goal but also impressive after playing with composure after receiving an early harsh yellow.
Ollie Banks was superb at the back and his inclusion there was a master stroke indeed and truly showed how versatile he is. But as a team we were so disciplined after their equaliser ok we lost our shape once or twice due to fatigue but ended up with a well deserved draw and a happy trip home after some plastic pints in the lively Bradford Arms.

Re: Bradford v Barrow match thread
Correct me if I am wrong. When we had a studio in Hartington St in Barrow which was called Radio Furness before we merged with Radio Carlisle to become Radio Cumbria we used to get greater coverage and think the presenter was Ron Duxbury.
Could it be because all the studio facilities are now based in Carlisle at the other end of the county 96 miles from Barrow.I seem to remember that The Bay always used to give us fairly good coverage also.Perhaps Radio Cumbria could work in conjunction with Cando Radio to give Barrow a bit more airtime.Just a suggestion.
