Dave Smith

Post by Walney road lad » Sat Oct 02, 2021 7:12 am

On Thursday of this week, my father, Dave Smith, sadly passed away. Dad was 72 and was a massive Bluebird fan for around 65 years. He could recall games and goals from the 1960’s right up to modern times. His enthusiasm for following ‘the soccer’ was infectious!! I worked out that over the last 42 years of following BAFC we’ve been to well over 1,000 games together! In the 60’s and 70’s he played local football as a goalkeeper for Vickers and Barrow Celtic. He loved being at Holker Street and the next Barrow goal scored there is for you dad. In recent months when he was seriously ill, the first question he would ask me when I visited was “any news on ‘the soccer’?”. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.

Another loyal Bluebird has left us. A consolation will be he saw his beloved club return to the football league.
Our thanks to those fans like your dad who stood by the club during the hard times and kept us going so we could rise again.
Your sadness at his passing will be helped by remembering the times you spent together at games in the past.
Hope we win today in memory of your dad.

Your dad was a great guy who loved his football at Holker Street. I knew him from his time in Vickers, and from seeing him from time to time at the footy.
Our thoughts are with you, Samantha, Matthew, Vanessa and the rest of the family at this very sad time.
RIP Dave

I am sorry to learn of your loss, Walney Road Lad. I didn't know your Dad but I feel sure he would have been great to chat to about "the Soccer". Condolences to you and your family. I suspect you will take your Dad in your heart and spirit to all future matches for the remainder of your own days.

A football club is more than just the sum of its numerous parts. It also has a soul that is constructed from the collective life memories and experiences of its players, the community it serves and especially its supporters.

We dont do Halls of Fame for supporters. But if we did I'm sure your Dad would've been in there. Hopefully there will always be a part of him with you whenever you are at HS. Condolences to you and yours.

So so sorry to hear the sad news. I knew Dave when we were at the training school together, a very good goalkeeper in his youth. Please accept my condolences for your loss.
