But it wasn't a great penalty. How many times have I told them : blast it high! ;) I have seen Banks do that before, don't know why he went low to the corner (and didn't get it hard enough or wide enough anyway).
Banks hit the ball straight down the middle Jim.
The goalkeeper never moved one way or the other and stopped it with his foot.
I may be wrong but hasnt he hit his other pens down the middle?
Is he our best penalty taker or our only option?

Last night and Mansfield away down the middle, Colchester home and Accrington away to the keeper's bottom right.

Steve Gaughan used to side foot them calmly to either side, not blast them.

We overplayed it and when we did start putting decent balls into the box we cant get on the end of it. Set pieces - please change the corner routine because I don’t think we ever win anything in the air from corners.

Most frustrating game of the season. Scunthorpe came with spoiling tactics and got the point. We won’t have a game with as much ball possession again for the rest of the season (86% second half. Forget the first half we were terrible)
I've heard the same complaint about exaggerated attendances at Pompey but people have then said that a reason is that non-attending season ticket holders are also included in the attendance figure which would explain a certain amount, if true. I wonder if these days, they also include Ifollow sales?

Spot on, Jonty. The first half I was crying out for someone to run at defenders. Josh Kay certainly did that. I can't understand what made us so cagey first half, it was like some of last season's stuff under Dunn. I had a tension headache by half time!

As for Zanzala - it is almost a case of "What have Carlisle ever done for us". We have M Jones and Devitt almost permanently on the sick for a year and a half and now Zanzala who seems to be half asleep most of the time. I wouldn't even say Farman is an improvement on Dixon.
Now we know why Carlisle released some of them !
Exactly. We took so long to get the ball forward they had time to pack the defence and the best through a packed defence is to get to the byline by keeping players as wide as possible and running at defenders. Sadly, IMO, our team is weaker up front, where Gordon and Zanzala together don't match Quigley and in central defence where Ellis and Grayson are miles off the level of Platt (I know we still have him but he's hardly played and he can't come back soon enough as far as I'm concerned) and Davies (or even Bobbie Thomas). In addition Farman is inferior to Dixon. The area where we are much better is midfield where Gotts, Banks, Stevens and White are far superior to that of last season. After a quiet first half, I thought Gotts was brilliant is the second and almost dragged Barrow forward single handedly.

An even better view of the complete mess TWO officials made of this last night.
Does anyone question these people and show them the evidence of their incompetence?

Never go in for all these inflated crowd theories but that one tonight genuinely baffled me, there was loads of room on the popular side, to hear it was over 2700 was a pleasant surprise to say the least
Agreed. When I looked online on Monday almost all of the Stand tickets appear to have been sold, yet it was half empty last night.

I know that season tickets are counted as though they had turned up, and I suspect there were also ST holders missing from other parts of the ground, so it would be useful to know how many spectators there were IN THE GROUND last night, not on paper.

Somebody must have those figures, so why aren't they being released?

However all the hospitality tickets are blocked out and are not available for sale so will look as sold on the map. Always gives an insight into how many are in hospitality by the non use of those seats

Mr Mike Pike retired EFL referee is usually in attendance at Holker St as the officials assessor. I am sure he will have or will bring this mistake to the attention of the officials in his report.

Understand people on here saying we need to play forward more, but there needs to be options for them else its pointless, movement up top is terrible, Zanzala is awful. James Jones constantly turns back inside when he needs to step in with the ball and look for options

Also the 2 clowns that stand on half way on the popular side (one who thinks hes funny shouting shite all the time and the other who is [SwearFilter] clueless) need to support the team as its getting boring listening to them. Definately never played in their lives

Also noticeable last night how many times we passed to the opposition when there was no threat.

We could easily have lost that had they not sat so deep in the second half. Their lack of someone who could put the ball in the net was worse than hours. They had quite a few one on ones with us and shot wide each time.

So right, Ian. I really do not want to make excuses for our poor, poor, poor performance last night when we barely deserved to get anything from the game. But when I see the picture you have provided it's just not on. Somebody needs to make the authorities aware of incompetence on this scale. Yes, both ref and liner are to blame but I would pick out the liner more as it must be his number one task to keep an eye on the keeper's feet during the taking of the penalty. It's shocking beyond belief. It's like an accountant who doesn't know what one plus one makes. It's so simple to see, it's not a hairline decision. Well, one plus one, (liner and ref in this particular instance) adds up to unacceptable incompetence. This photographic evidence should be made available to the powers-that-be.

I agree Paul, I don’t want to make excuses for the idiot ref but his job at that moment must be looking for people moving into the area or jostling between players, the liner has pretty much that one job to do and he messed up big time.

Thanks.

Hopefully he’ll have seen some of the photos or the video evidence because that is just terrible officiating.
