I don't how it's being reported in your local paper but up here we've told that Carlisle, Allerdale and Copeland will become Cumberland, while Penrith, South Lakes and Barrow will become Westmoreland and Furness. It's also been reported that the two administrative area will, most probably, still be labelled Cumbria.

Thought the areas were going to be labelled East & West Cumbria (administration wise). Believe it or not Barrow area would be regarded East Cumbria!!!!!

The info that I've given there was just anounced last week, not sure if it's carved in stone mind. Maybe they realised how laughable it would be to label Barrow as East Cumbria, farcical.

For the Allerdale, Carlisle and Copeland areas the council’s name will be Cumberland Council.
For the Barrow, Eden and South Lakeland areas the council’s name will be Westmorland and Furness Council.

Which gets us back to the original point that Cumbria - East or West - is not a county. It is as you have said an administrative unit.

i appreciatte the fact that this thread is now boring and off topic but Barrow is still in Lancashire, which is why we play in the Lancashire Cup.

Cumbria? Lancashire? Cumberland? Westmorland and Furness?

All I know is I think it's safe to say Barrow-in-Furness is in The Milky Way. However we'd better hold onto that allegiance for as long as we can because according to the recent programme Andromeda is looking to merge with us. I'm sure many occupants within each galaxy will be unhappy about this and it will give rise to a lot of tension and galaxyist insults flying between the two camps. I don't think the authorities have yet decided on the new name for the two soon-to-be merged galaxies.
