Barrow v Salford match thread
Re: Barrow v Salford match thread
Biggest disappointment for me is how far backwards we have gone in past few months.
Early season we looked decent. Reasonably solid at the back and fluent going forwards with plenty of quality balls stuck in the box. We all harped on that all we needed was a ‘Quigley’ (including myself) and we’d be fine.
Now here we are again - Coopers tactics simply aren’t working and we don’t appear to have recruited for the situation that we are in.
We’re not getting the simple things right - central defenders not heading away balls (Saturday in particular), passes given away far too easily in midfield, no second balls being won, and the set pieces into the box are woeful (on the very odd occasion where we beat the first man it goes out on the far side instead).
I can only think that we put our best performances in against Ipswich and Barnsley as there was no pressure on these games. That is worrying as it is up to Cooper to take the pressure off the players for the league games and I think that his style and demeanour are having the reverse affect.
Back to hoping that 2 sides are worse than us.

Re: Barrow v Salford match thread
The perfect summary. When Gotts and Stevens first signed we played some decent attacking football and it was entertaining, and as you say we looked a striker away from a mid table team. Now we seem scared to attack through midfield and our tactics basically involve getting it out wide to Hutton or Brough to put a cross in, which opposing teams will love, they can just put two big centre backs up against the young lads up front and head it away all gameApril1972 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 8:45 am Biggest disappointment for me is how far backwards we have gone in past few months.

I would estimate there were no more than 2,800 in there last night. The Popular Side seemed to turn to the announcer in bemusement as he said it.NUFFSAID wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 8:17 am Re the attendance - I assume it includes all season ticket holders? . Also, I had two tickets for the original game, and couldn't make last night and have been trying to get a refund since 11th Jan. - I have an e mail trail saying its going to happen, (my last e mail being 24th Jan)..... still waiting. Maybe, just maybe my tickets still counted last night (and others no doubt) until the transanction is cleared off? . Anyone else in the same boat?.

God knows I put my foot in it from time to time but, I think the above sort of commenting is bang out of order. Just no need for it and doesnt help our survival cause.

Agree make him see out his contract he signed it, he could also hand in his resignation letter, if we go down like the players he will also have to honour his contract, we will see then if he wants to be here.mickycarrol wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 7:32 amPlays right into his hands, it’s what he wants, a nice pay off. Re: Barrow v Salford match thread
We surely must be looking at defenders after losing Arthur and letting Ellis out on loan?
I’m convinced we are close to a decent side but we need to grind out some results we are far too easy to play at times and let so many soft goals in despite not often being under the cosh. Maybe this formation has run its course now? We’ve had it since evatt and teams figure out tactics eventually.

We have missed Josh Gordon massively! I think had he played last night then the result may have been different.
I would tend to agree that we are not a million miles away from a decent side but we need a couple of warriors - one up front and one at the back.

Shove the [SwearFilter] on gardening leave and let someone senior take temp charge, can they be any worse?mickycarrol wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 10:18 pm We looked absolutely devoid of shape, game plan and cohesion from front to back we were an absolute shambles. Lump it n hope it falls to us which it never did cos we didn’t win a single second ball all night.
The gamble on two young eager strikers will not pay off either as they are 4st wet through and too naive, we shouldn’t be throwing kids into a dog fight to learn their trade ffs. Leicester n Sunderland must see we could ruin em!!!!
Cooper must want out the way he acts, speaks and the teams performances of late but we prob can’t afford to pay him out. His attitude has never been one of him loving to be here, seems we’ve always been a stop gap until something closer to home crops up for him.
We are in a proper fight and the fixtures do not look good for us either ffs

Re: Barrow v Salford match thread
IT will work but we haven`t the players to implement it none of the back 3 want to take the ball forward so it goes from side to side, banks and white hardly ever enter the penalty area and our wingbacks don`t work hard enough and when they get near the opponents penalty area they rarely take a defender on , it`s just a diagonal cross which is food and drink to any decent defender (when brough last did this we got a penalty against Swindon ).Steeley wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 11:21 am We surely must be looking at defenders after losing Arthur and letting Ellis out on loan?

We should go to a flat back 4 then have 2 wide men 2 in central midfield and 2 front men.
It`s a shambles at the moment and if Cooper and his team plus our board of directors can`t see this we are in big trouble !
Re: Barrow v Salford match thread
I must agree. It's not good at the moment, but moaning about the manager does no good at all. I am worried, anxious, didn't sleep too well last night, but we have to keep the faith and keep backing the manager and the players.
Talk of sacking Cooper is pointless. The manager merry-go-round is what has got us into this position. Cooper is the fourth person to be in charge of this side in a season and a half. Each time someone goes, the next one has to inherit some players, bring in new ones, change tactics, formation, etc.
Cooper was appointed as an experienced manager and I believe he will work with the Board to develop the team and the infrastructure. I believe it is a 3 year contract, so it should be a 3 year plan to develop on and off the field. It hasn't gone well so far, but IMO we have to stick with it. Objective now is to survive in L2. Then Cooper can have the close season to plan, recruit, and prepare the team properly. If next season doesn't show progress, then we would be entitled to question his position.

Not being funny but he had that this season didn`t he ?
The problem is people and our board are obsessed with the "Barrowcelona " yes that was great but we do all that AFTER we become established in this league , Cooper has to be honest ditch all this 3 at the back lark and play to our strengths it`s our only hope because at the moment we`er dancing in the dark .
