Re: Solidarity with Ukraine
The Premier League are you for real? they are real "paragons of virtue" they have stood by and watched club's go to the wall and give the EFL/ nonleague peanuts when most of these club's are in severe financial difficulties !Methuselah wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 5:58 pm You obviously have not read the first post where the Premier League is asking you to support Ukraine by showing solidarity.Whether you agree or not is neither here or there. You fortunately are in a free country where you are allowed to have an opinion without being arrested. It was people like my dad who fought in the last World War who gave you that freedom by getting rid of the last tyrant namely Adolf Hitler.

And bringing a Ukraine flag to a league 2 game is doing something?Methuselah wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 6:49 pm You have the freedom of choice.Don,t criticise people who want to support Ukraine, just sit on your hands and do nothing.
Said this with BLM and I’ll say it again now. Politics doesn’t belong in football. It’s just virtue signalling that doesn’t make a shite of difference.

Re: Solidarity with Ukraine
So you think the Champions League final should still be held in St Petersburg and the Grand Prix should still be held in Russia when the governing bodies think differently and removed them.Even the Russian public are protesting about the invasion,so in spite of what you say a lot of people unlike you obviously think differently.
Re: Solidarity with Ukraine
So you think by bringing a yellow and blue flag to a football game it’s going to make Putin rethink his actions? It’s not going to make a shite of difference. Moving the CL final and not having the Russian GP is decisions made by governing bodies that have to protect the general public so yes it was a right decision to make. The big difference is that they are directly impacted by the FIA and UEFA decisions and couldn’t care less about an idiot waving a flag on the other side of EuropeMethuselah wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 7:54 pm So you think the Champions League final should still be held in St Petersburg and the Grand Prix should still be held in Russia when the governing bodies think differently and removed them.Even the Russian public are protesting about the invasion,so in spite of what you say a lot of people unlike you obviously think differently.

Re: Solidarity with Ukraine
FIFA lets think, how about a World Cup where slavery is still going on, UEFA lets change the Champions League Final to Paris because no one will now travel to a final in Russia, always thinking about the next rouble eh I mean dollar.
Re: Solidarity with Ukraine
I don’t think these gestures do any good, but I don’t think the original post deserves this degree of opprobrium and political point scoring.

You are comparing a payout to a football club to a country being invaded and people dying….agree, disagree or simply not care but that is a terrible comparison Nige.blue nige wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 7:04 pmThe Premier League are you for real? they are real "paragons of virtue" they have stood by and watched club's go to the wall and give the EFL/ nonleague peanuts when most of these club's are in severe financial difficulties !Methuselah wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 5:58 pm You obviously have not read the first post where the Premier League is asking you to support Ukraine by showing solidarity.Whether you agree or not is neither here or there. You fortunately are in a free country where you are allowed to have an opinion without being arrested. It was people like my dad who fought in the last World War who gave you that freedom by getting rid of the last tyrant namely Adolf Hitler.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Re: Solidarity with Ukraine
If politics doesn't belong in football how come the Barrow mp of the time took up the club's plight in the House Of Commons where we were on the edge of distinction at the turn of the century. Many Barrow fans petitioned him to do so and weren't objecting to the link between politics and football then.bamber678 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 7:10 pmAnd bringing a Ukraine flag to a league 2 game is doing something?Methuselah wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 6:49 pm You have the freedom of choice.Don,t criticise people who want to support Ukraine, just sit on your hands and do nothing.if you want to do something get over to Ukraine and start shooting.

I think people who say they don't think politics and sport shouldn't mix tend to be people who don't agree with contemporary causes.
If someone wants to wear an Ukrainian shirt, let them. If it gives the smallest grain of comfort to someone currently living in the Ukraine to know others are thinking of them in whatever way it may have been worthwhile.
Last time I looked we were living in a democracy where you can pretty much wear what you want to a football match.
As a p.s. I see that Poland have pulled out of their world cup qualifier with Russia next month. If we were to keep politics out of sport then Poland would be expected to play Russia whilst one of their players is currently under bombardment by the Russian army whilst living/playing in Kyiv. - not sure how that would work.

Re: Solidarity with Ukraine
I must admit I'm a bit surprised to hear that there wasn't a minutes silence at the first home game of the season for covid victims. I wasn't at Holker Street for that.blue nige wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 5:33 pmreally what about the west Bank, Hong-Kong numerous other places/ countries? the list is endless, I'm sorry but it's nothing to do with a football match at Holker Street did we have a minutes silence for covid victims? where do you draw the line ?Methuselah wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 4:28 pm Totally agree with Solidarity with Ukraine.Might I suggest we gave a minutes silence at the beginning of the match in memory of all the people who have died as a result of this illegal act by Russia, which has caused many young innocent children to lose their lives. We as a club need to make a stand and perhaps coordinate with all other football clubs so at 3pm tomorrow a united message is given.
I did go to Mansfield's first home game of the season against Bristol Rovers. I was in the away end with a friend. there was a short speech over the tanoy and then a minute's silence for covid victims. This was impeccably observed.
After so long away from watching live football, this was one of the most moving moments I have ever experienced at a football ground.

Re: Solidarity with Ukraine
At the farce that was the winter Olympics they allowed a drugged up teenager to complete scared of offending China or Russia, Liverpool fans have the chance tomorrow to show what they feel when one of Putin's pals team are at Wembley.
