He paid the price (partly) because he brought most of that forward line here and he couldn’t get them to score.Jonty wrote: ↑Sun Mar 20, 2022 10:26 pmThat won’t change with a new Manager E. its still the same players who miss the good chances week after week yet the Manager ultimately pays the price.spirit of 1990 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 20, 2022 9:52 pm
I totally agree, I wasn’t saying a new manager could suddenly get them playing well and they’d miraculously start to find the net. My point was any new manager will need to find a way of getting the odd goal out of them because at the moment we’re relying on Banks or Rooney.
I can’t ever remember us having such a weak forward line. Ever.
Zanzala (although not sure if that was down to Cooper) never a prolific scorer. Williams, runs around a lot like James and Gordon. Gordon, runs around a lot like James and Williams. James, runs around a lot like Williams and Gordon. Hardly a goal threat between them yet Cooper signs James up for next season. Sea….who knows what’s happening there! Wakeling, never the right sort of player in our situation. Holloway, can’t run and can’t score.
That there is a big reason why he paid the price Jonty. I also don’t think this has been “knee-jerk” reaction, surely this has been on the minds of the owners for weeks if not months now.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
Re: Cooper left by mutual consent
Knew at 5pm on Saturday it was game over when we saw Hornby already pulling out of the car park whilst coming out of the ground and that interview has possibly been the final nail. Not sure if at this point this is the correct decision and I guess only time will tell. Who would have thought after that day we were confirmed as being promoted we’d be looking for our 4th or 5th manager less than 2 years later. Whose next then, because I really don’t have a clue!

I think we will rue this decision in the long run.

Re: Cooper left by mutual consent
Got to assume it will be a temp person to take the reigns.
Proven/unproven/young/old who knows what we need now. We probably need to stumble on some luck and find a gem.
Obvious assumption is Taylor will be in the running for temp charge but with respect does he have the managerial knowledge to set up a side to get results? Do we even need that or would a galvanised dressing room be enough for the players to improve the results?

To be fair, people on this forum were putting forward more credable line ups, Taylor would have no problem.
Re: Cooper left by mutual consent
Who knows if Taylor will make a good manager but if he's got the motivational skills to get the team playing as a team and can inject some belief in them it might be half the battle

Summed situation up perfectly.Hitthebar22 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 21, 2022 12:12 amAfter careful reflection, I see the sacking as a big mistake, unless he’s lost the dressing room like Jolley and Dunn did. A long term replacement isn’t worth considering. We need someone to keep us up, end of argument. Who is appointed next will be fascinating. A poisoned chalice in some ways given the proximity to the drop. If the idea is to “build” - what, from the National League? Cooper is/was an enigmatic character certainly. Pointless to say this now I know, but if we were to survive under him, next season would have been a big step forward. Now, whoever is shoed into the role has massive pressure to maintain L2 status. If he succeeds it shouldn’t necessarily be a given that he is here next season. I just hope that the owners have/have had someone decent in their sights to come in in really difficult and pressurised circumstances to take over from Cooper. Suicide otherwise.andyg wrote: ↑Sun Mar 20, 2022 11:31 pm I really don't know where I stand with this decision. Agree and see the point of both sides of the argument. But we are six points clear of the drop - but with a pretty tough run in to the end of the season. So is that the right move to get rid? I really don't know. Wonder if the 8 match ban had anything to do with the decision. However, I thought we were so poor against Carlisle - so was the decision a knee jerk reaction by the board? I hope not as that means there is no forward planning and panic is setting in. Even when we beat 10 man Scunny was the writing on the wall - I'd love to know but probably never will.
I don't really want a couple of players taking over or having some non league manager taking over until, say, the end of the season in our predicament as that will not work. (However, what do I know). I just want the decision to be made that is effective with some sort of long term strategy. What Evatt, Kelly & Cooper have tried to do is drag Barrow away from a non league club mentality. Unfortunately I get the impression that this mentality still exists at the club - but I have no evidence of that just a gut feeling. That is why I don't want to see a manager appointed that has that way of thinking and that is why we must go for an experienced EFL person. The club still has a long way to go. Lets hope we are spending next season in the EFL and not in non league.

Im inclined to agree. Not great performances but he'd have kept us up amd could have built next season.
Re: Cooper left by mutual consent
Its logical and makes sense that if you want to improve your league position by 10% then you increase your budget by the same amount and if its done right your income will rise by 10% to cover it.
At Carlisle, the only people who can't see that if they increased the budget by 50% with a half-decent manager like Curle or Simpson the gates and income would easily increase by at the very least a similar amount are the people currently holding the purse strings and by that I dont mean Andrew Jenkins who i.m pretty sure would love to stick a wedge in and give it a good go before his time comes but who is currently constrained on one part by his sons who seem desperate to not only get their hands on his company but also what's left of his fortune too and on the other by Phillip Day who seems to want to run the club in the same way he runs/ran his retail empire and we know that didn't end well don't we ?
I would of course agree that giving total incompetents like Pressley and Beech that sort of cash would be like flushing it down the toilet but at least they've taken the first step by appointing a half-decent manager in Simpson at last who has started to show what would happen crowd and interest wise if there was to be that uplift.
Even at Barrow, I would argue that if you funded an uplift of 10% and saw a similar increase in performance with a competent manager like Curle in charge you would see a proportionate increase in income unfortunately for you it seems pretty clear that your board are susceptible to the first chancer who comes along claiming he can improve your performance without an increase in cash [ Dunn and Jolly ] who then realise they can't and have to keep going to the board with their begging bowl out. At least the likes of Curle are honest enough to come out and tell the owners how much he feels it would take but what went wrong at Carlisle was that they allowed him to implement a bonus scheme that was affordable with the club in mid-table but which was ridiculous if they were top of the league but he got away with because the crowds increased sufficiently to pay for it and it only became an issue when Clibbins needed to justify letting Curle run down his contract and leave.
I take no pleasure in saying that I predicted that you would struggle this season simply based on the fact that if you take the names of the players you signed pre-season how many people could tell you their previous club never mind ones before that. There were of course exceptions like Zanzala Ellis and Devitt but it doesn't take a genius to work out what those 3 have in common.
Keith is welcome to the contents of my piggy bank anytime he likes.

The board are by and large doing a great job but they can’t pick a manager for shit!
Get Andrew Carson back in a consultancy capacity to pick the new manager. Come find us the new Evatt AC!

Thought that was Paul Casson? For me, our crowds have been so good, and Having not won at home since early December, they couldn’t take a risk continuing with MC when he didn’t take responsibility for a lot of things, blaming the conditions again Saturday, when it was a nice spring day and didn’t know why they made no effort running about in the first half. Listening to the Carlisle boss it’s like chalk and cheese, speaking about consistency and how they studied this whilst he was at the FAJohn_Bucks wrote: ↑Mon Mar 21, 2022 8:11 am The board are by and large doing a great job but they can’t pick a manager for shit!

Not sure where that confidence comes from. A totally unexpected win at Northampton and an uninspiring win at Scunthorpe (who had gone long ago) and FAC aside they’ve been our highlights for…..???philbrownstan wrote: ↑Mon Mar 21, 2022 8:01 amIm inclined to agree. The thought of keeping him here for another season (even if we did stop up) sends a shiver down my spine.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
Re: Cooper left by mutual consent
I thought until recently that Cooper might get this season over with and then have a chance to build something like he did at FG. However, I have been thinking for a few weeks that Cooper seemed unhappy and that probably there would be a mutual parting at the end of the season. It has happened sooner than I expected. With the odds on survival still slightly in our favour (on the balance of probability) it was a big decision to make.
