Brownies HONEYMOON PERIOD
I’m amazed & saddened by how many of you are now clamouring for him to be given the job based on a tiny snapshot of time & are also saying we need continually, Talk about a Contradiction!!
Browns still on his honeymoon period & you never make long term commitments based on this, If you do, & we have previously it leads to where we are today, the left hand not knowing what the rights doing.
Brown has done really well & I will thank him eternally for keeping us up, But look at the evidence here!!
If the rumours that Blooper lost the dressing room, confused the team with his tactics & game plans & publicly said 1 thing & privately do another & lost interest generally…Then almost anyone different would boost the team moral & the fitness thing beggers belief it was allowed to continue…
There has to be some NON NEGOTIABLES between the BOD & Gaffer, Surely it’s the BOD who decide all the major decisions, Like Training facilities location…..Letting Managers At a whim move locations is soooo AMATEUR it’s mind blowing…. & leads to the chaos of the last few season where we turned into nomadic dossers begging to be accommodated, Sheer Madness that & embarrassing.
The BOD should have been researching as soon as things began souring with Coops ( So realistically ) January time-ish , Chat to many footy insiders on not who’s available, but who’s the best of the best available obviously based on L2 criteria.
This next appointment we just can’t afford to get wrong.
Lower League Football landscape is changing & fast as most of the badly run & those financially struggling clubs get relegated & replaced by forward thinking or heavily backed well run clubs & it’s going to continue for a while, This means L2 will get stronger by the season as those coming up strong remain or thrive & the basket case clubs slowly disappear below.
Next season will be even harder to survive than this again IMHO So get this one right!!!
Phil looked very scruffy when appointed so to me that says he didn’t think he would get the job.
When suddenly announced I’m guessing he got the phone call saying get up here immediately for the announcement & literally drove straight up, What else explains it?
He said he was kinda out of the loop when the call came & he was more than willing to take us on temporarily which tells you no one else was making any calls to him, This means we hold all the cards & if they have done MONTHS of research & due diligence & Phil comes top of the pile then again IMHO I would offer a 1 year deal BUT HEAVILY based upon performance ie He takes us quickly to a mid to upper mid table placing leads to automatically increased his contract to another year.
He did similar last season with Swindon, They were virtually gone when he rocked up & beyond saving, He brought in the new guy bounce where results were remarkably better & they gave him the gig & regretted it by Christmas & sacked him…His last job, He keeps referring to Sam Alladyce ?? Why ?? Is he stuck in a time wrap of when things were good and easy ( it does happen ) Swindon reckon this Dinosaur approach is his style & he’s straight jacketed by what worked previously, This will only become apparent after say 15/20 games in, So it’s a huge call for our BOD & 1 they simply can’t afford to get wrong again & this is where cool calm heads need to take a sober long look without a hint of sentiment or starstruck admiration ( see Dunn )
Remember who gets the gig brings in his staff & new players & we need Stability for a season or 2 not replacing everyone every year or we are DOWN next season.
Never marry your foreign 2 week summer fling within weeks of returning as you really don’t know them that well do you & they may take you to the cleaners when things eventually sour…..
PS I really like everything Phil’s saying & doing but we are bigger than a Amateur pub club blinded by another footy name & a couple of wins.
AGAIN for clarity Phil just might be the right guy but you must research long & hard before committing.
Thoughts?

Brown for manager.
Some folk seem to have him down as some sort of clown/court jester/joke. No idea where they get that from. For me it just looks and feels like a good fit. I'd be surprised if we're looking at anyone else.

Re: Brownies HONEYMOON PERIOD
We were dead and buried prior to PB arriving gone and on the way back to many years in the wilderness again he turned it all round with excellent nous and organization gave the players belief no need for me to even begin to discuss an alternative he took the chance threw his cards on the table did the job against all odds lets not forget that we were gone as a team he deserves to be given the job if he wants it jeez some people are never satisfied

Re: Brownies HONEYMOON PERIOD
Hope that’s not aimed at me as I’ve said a few times that I’m loving what he’s doing at the moment but that’s all it is…..the proof is what happens when the Honeymoon is over & his last gig mirrors this right now & it ended badly a few months later…..Same happens to us & next season will be a lot worse than this one, that you can be assured of, That’s my major concern, Nothing about him personally just do the homework

Sorry but that’s soooo short sighted & emotional view point….Not a way to run any organisation.popular side wrote: ↑Sun Apr 24, 2022 6:45 pm We were dead and buried prior to PB arriving gone and on the way back to many years in the wilderness again he turned it all round with excellent nous and organization gave the players belief no need for me to even begin to discuss an alternative he took the chance threw his cards on the table did the job against all odds lets not forget that we were gone as a team he deserves to be given the job if he wants it jeez some people are never satisfied...............

Re: Brownies HONEYMOON PERIOD
He was brought in for 9 games. Currently lost 3 won 2 drawn 1 with 3 to go. The jury is still out for me. Make the decision after the nine games. Can he get a tune out of this squad now we are playing for nothing? I agree with Mike on this the club must research hard before making the decision.

The same kind of research that brought us Dunn, Jolley and Cooper?Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Sun Apr 24, 2022 6:52 pm I agree with Mike on this the club must research hard before making the decision.
For me, we've lucked into Broony. We should be careful what we wish for.

Remember how we all felt just a few weeks ago, Basically we all we agreeing that we will never get back as the NL is soooo strong now, We just have to get this right & if Phil is the best guy then fine….Do your homework & don’t base any decision on EMOTIONALLY staying up.

On the fence at the moment. The board have a difficult job to do in the selection process. It hasn't worked out for one reason or another the last couple of seasons, but the next appointment must be the right one.

Re: Brownies HONEYMOON PERIOD
Hopefully they have learned from those mistakes. Look beyond the soundbites he uses and speak to those he has worked with before and the current squad. Like has been said research hard before making the decision.RedWeb wrote: ↑Sun Apr 24, 2022 6:55 pmThe same kind of research that brought us Dunn, Jolley and Cooper?Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Sun Apr 24, 2022 6:52 pm I agree with Mike on this the club must research hard before making the decision.

You have just MADE MY POINT here….Those weren’t thought through were they??RedWeb wrote: ↑Sun Apr 24, 2022 6:55 pmThe same kind of research that brought us Dunn, Jolley and Cooper?Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Sun Apr 24, 2022 6:52 pm I agree with Mike on this the club must research hard before making the decision.

Dunn… basically blinded them with his stature in the game ex top flight, England International etc with a crap managerial record but okish youth development, Not the correct CV to be given the gig…Wrong call.
Jolley…No idea on this one so it has to be he bull shittted himself into the job?? Question is how were the BOD so easily taken in??
Bizarre appointment.
Rob Kelly we got lucky here as we all know.
Cooper…This is a hard one as on paper clicks all the boxes, took a NL team into the league & built them up, But they have lots of money to waste & he has form of large squad recruiting to help back him up, Whereas we didn’t & he lived down south…Did he get sick of the training travelling?? Sounds like this was 1 of the issues..
No guarantees we get the right appointment even with loads of due diligence…But fail to fully prepare then be…Fully prepared to fail.
Again for those who can’t read, I have nothing again Phil & wish him well but I care for our club & footy types keep pulling our pants down…Break that Mould.

Re: Brownies HONEYMOON PERIOD
HE is not playing for nothing for the next three games - he is playing for a new contract, and the players are playing to stay at HS (assuming they want to)!Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Sun Apr 24, 2022 6:52 pm Can he get a tune out of this squad now we are playing for nothing?
He has also said that he owes it to the rest of the league to try to get results from the last three games as each of our last three opponents are playing for promotion.
I like that attitude and cannot understand why so many people on here are/were against his appointment, and would like to know why.
Please do tell.
Re: Brownies HONEYMOON PERIOD
As I said, there seems to be some sort of media/internet perception that Brown is a washed-up clown who once gave a half-time team talk on the pitch at Man City. For me he has been an extremely successful manager who knows the game inside out. We don't need smart arses like Jolley who learned everything they know in a book. We need an experienced manager to keep it simple and get the best of what he has.walneyroad wrote: ↑Sun Apr 24, 2022 7:13 pm I like that attitude and cannot understand why so many people on here are/were against his appointment, and would like to know why.
