Just gone back to the Crawley away game thread, many wanted Brown sacking, Rooney waste of time and send Holloway back to Burton, players don`t care about the Club and we will get relegated, then in 9 days Brown should be here next season, Rooney is a hero again & lets get Holloway signed up, funny old game is football.

I thank Phil Brown for the job he has done for us and I hope he and Neil Macdonald get the jobs permanently. Convinced we were down and out but they pulled the side around in a manner that showed their ability and professionalism. The board have tried to get the right manager but as we know it is no easy task to get the right man, now we seem to have found someone who can get results plus handle the other things, like media work, very smoothly.
Time alone will tell how successful it will be but they thoroughly deserve to have a crack at the manager and assistant jobs.
If they want the job and a deal can be arranged to suit all parties then I hope it gets done.

That's an important point "if they (he) wants the job". He has done very well for us after a shaky start - a previously mediocre/poor side now mixing it with the top of the league. It has proved that the players were/are good enough for this league in the frenzy of threatened relegation. My only point here is that it isn't a given by any means that Brown would want the job if it was offered. There may be other clubs who have him in their sights. Also I haven't decided how ambitious and/or opportunistic he is yet.

Sorry, but all this "we must do our research, due diligence...etc." is just a load of codswallop. Manchester United, anyone? You think they just appointed the first fly-by-night that came along? It's a pig in a poke. A manager either fits at a club or doesn't. And once things go wrong, they're gone. That's it.
Don't let the old man in.

I was sceptical when he came in but thinking he may be a good appointment now for next season.

The last 3 managers we thought through, cooper had all the boxes ticked but it didn’t work, manager appointments can often be down to luck, chesterfield didn’t want evatt.
PB did rubbish with Southend at the start of this season but going down to the conference is always tough for teams so harsh to judge.

I am still torn, but edging gradually closer to giving him the job but only on an initial one year rolling contract. A big point for me now is we need some continuity from one season to the next, we've had to start again in the last two summers where we desperately needed some managerial stability.

I'd have liked to have gone for someone doing well in the National League, like Wild from Halifax if we had the finances to compensate. The other two options are someone off the managerial merry-go-round, or trying to find a diamond in the rough (huge risk in our circumstances).
Popular side since '03.

And FGR didn't want Cooper despite what he'd done there.

It's a funny old game!

We got the best of both worlds out of this, we as a club get to know our interviewees as in Brown and McDonald they get to know us as in the players and board and the fans too to a degree hopefully plenty of dialogue going both ways in the meantime. If the club think they are the right fit at the end of April then so be it. If not we enter the manager hunt lottery again.

Give it him on a short term contract, he and Macca know the players now, know whose good enough and who isn't, they seem to be playing for him, so I don't think it would be a bad shout to give it him permanently
Heaven is a place on earth, we prefer to call it Holker Street :scarf: popular side since 2002! :scarf:

Brown (and McDonald) clearly saw what was needed to get results in this league. He is not a 'purist' like Cooper, but he turned a bunch of losers into a bunch of winners after 3 games. Going for a 'young up and coming' like Evatt could be great, or could be a disaster. Likewise, going for a 'proven' manager (if there is such a person) doesn't guarantee success either.

Brown has earned the right to be considered for a contract. I think the opinion of the players must be taken into account too. Also, assess the amount of influence McDonald has had on it all, and whether he would be a part. Finally, minimise the risk by one year contract with options and possibly a review/performance get-out clause in mid season. Of course, that makes the contract less attractive to Brown, but IMO discussions should be held with him and McDonald first before considering alternatives.

Our supposed 'lack of confidence ' as a league club is an interesting one. Obviously our route into the league was unusual and it remains a fact that had the season reached its natural conclusion we might not have been promoted. So I wonder if the successes of 19-20 caught us on the hop a bit and left us unprepared. Hopefully the much larger funding available as a league club coupled with the mostly doubled gates we are getting now can keep pushing us forward to get the right set up behind the scenes and ultimately facilities that will attract more fans and the right players

As I keep saying - he might not want the job, so at the moment it’s wrong to presume he’d take it if was offered.

I quite liked PB from the start, he was a breath of fresh air compared to Cooper who was just miserable, though I think he did have reasons to be so!
Brown appears to see Barrow as a bit of a "project" to get his teeth into, hence him already speaking about academies, training locally etc. I also think it massages his ego to be seen as the man who kept us in L2, which no denying he has.
He seems genuinely happy with what he has to work with and there's no doubt the squad look like there playing for each other.
If the board risk trying to appoint an " Evatt clone" and it goes t**s up, they will be absolutely slaughtered. I don't think they really have a choice, offer him it, with clauses, if he wants it great, if not look elsewhere

Quite so but the records now show that ditching Mark ‘Gross Misconduct’ Cooper is a sure fire recipe for success.
We will foller the soccer, over land and sea...

Thought Brown would be a perfect fit short term but not long term but he has won me over and deserves a crack at it next season. You cant help but warm to the bloke as he seems genuine and sincere plus the players want to play for him. Like others have said look at Man Utd STILL trying to find Ferguson's replacement. Whoever is in charge next season will be a gamble.
