Paul Simpson is another one from carlisle who couldn't bring himself to say anything nice about Barrow after the game at Holker Street. All Simpson did was slag the ground off without any recourse to the fact that we are new to the league and need time to get the required work done.
The only club locally that has been welcoming of our return was Morecambe who ironically, carlisle see as their derby rather than Barrow.

Wonder if Wakeling & Harris enjoyed the experience of having their season finishing early to come and sit on the bench/stand bet the both of them can`t wait to come back.

Or the board stand up and accept responsibility for the crap managers they appointed signing them and fund them themselves outside of the squad budget while at the same time appointing one of a select band of ruthless intermediaries to ship them out preferably permanently but on loan till the end of their contracts if need be.
The good news is that apart from Banks it seems as if none have more than a year left on their current contracts so in most cases a couple of half-season loans at 80% of their current salaries would see a considerable saving.
And as for Mike Jones i.d say people are being a little unfair on a player who prior to arriving at Holker Street had a pretty good record for staying fit and being a conscientious guy so the club have to accept responsibility for whats almost certainly a career-ending injury received while playing for them.
But what I do is follow and comment on the fortunes and activities of a number of clubs in the areas I was born in and now live in basically Cumbria and Lancashire. In the season just ended I saw 4 Barrow games so i.m sorry if you feel people need to be a season ticket holder to post on here.
My history with Barrow actually goes back to I think it was 1976 when the "Barrow Boot Boys" came thru to Kendal and spent the afternoon spraying their blue tag all over the Parkside ground before a night match maybe some on here will remember it.

Yes i.m a Carlisle [ I would say more of a follower than a supporter these days ] i.ve never hidden that fact on here [ on this profile or in my previous incarnation ] Ive been following them since 1974. In the past i.ve spent a considerable amount of money sponsoring them, I.m proud to say I was a friend and confidant of a previous owner, Spent a lot of time opposing his successor when the majority of supporters thought he was some sort of messiah and at that point, I fell out of love with the club [ but continued to follow the team ] and during this time I started to take an interest in a number of other clubs in the area in which I now live Barrow included.
Oh and by the way i.m not from Penrith [ no idea where you get that from ] I was actually born and bred in Kendal and at 16 very nearly came to live and work in Barrow. And what's even harder to fathom out is why you think I cant stand Barrow being in the EFL when actually nothing could be further from the truth and I think that you.ll find most Carlisle fans would prefer you in rather than out. Why wouldn't they want a local derby that they haven't had for over 50 years? Yes there's been issues on a number of subjects I suppose the main one being Radio Cumbria and their refusal to simply split the frequencies properly [And them trying to say it isn't possible when just next door in Lancashire they manage it perfectly adequately where fans of all clubs agree they do a brilliant job despite then having to cover 4 times as many clubs down to the level RC do ]
As for Simpson slagging you off, he simply didn't, he criticised your changing facilities as he has also recently done the facilities for away teams at BP [and is putting his hands where his mouth is at the expense of maybe something that would benefit the home team hes having improvements made to the away dressing rooms] and having taken a strong interest in my local club, Accrington Stanley since I moved here, believe me, I know all about people criticising a clubs changing facilities. But I do understand the issues at HS given the state of flux that both the club and the ground are in.
The other thing he commented on was the accommodation given to away fans [ now please tell me you're not going to try and defend the current situation at Holker street.] which I think you.ll find every single club whos visited this season has criticised and the fact that the capacity figure was recently reduced by 15% by the SAG proves that those criticising it have a point. There was a much simpler way of doing it that could have actually doubled your income from away fans this season Let's hope that the solution that the board have come up with both improves the offering as well as increasing the allocation [ Given that over half the teams in the league next season are quite capable of bringing over a thousand away fans ] My feeling is you've missed an opportunity here Accrington were attracting large away followings [ based on visiting a ground like they used to be] and the income that brings to both the club and the town, in general, is substantial and Barrow could have done exactly the same.
And yes for the last few years Carlisle have considered Morecambe to be their derby game [ given the demise of Hartlepool and Darlington ] and they have embraced that by giving us the largest allocations possible [ well nearly, as i.ve never understood why they don't make it possible to split the Berlin wall side so away clubs with a following could make use of an area that's invariably empty ] but there a quite a few things they need to do to their ground as their away end has also had its capacity severely reduced due to the very cramped nature of the "concourse" at the rear and the stupid steps at the front and in general have welcomed us to the town with bars openly advertising that away fans were welcome etc things that Barrow as a club and a town could do which is also something that Accy have excelled in by the likes of pioneering the "away fans welcome" marquee fan zone.
So contrary to what you seem to think i.m not here to slag your club off quite the opposite in fact but I really do think your owner needs to take lessons from Andy Holt in talking to fans about things and consulting on them before they are presented as a "fait de compli" and are simply given as something thats happening and that 3 or 4 short interviews with Adam a year simply isn't good enough.

Doubling the income on away fans is a big stretch when only a few teams sold the allocation they were given this season - yes for certain teams;- Carlisle, Bradford and then Northampton in the last game we could have done - but over the season it would have had been maybe a 10% uplift.M6 BLUE wrote: ↑Sun May 15, 2022 12:18 pmHa ha I dont think i.ve ever seen so many inaccuracies in such a short post.mall wrote: ↑Sat May 14, 2022 10:07 am As I said weeks ago Nige, M6BLUE is a carlisle supporter from Penrith who can't stand Barrow being in the efl.

What we need to do as a club to progress in L2 is to 1) improve the team and 2) make Holker Street a more intimidating place for away teams - having a bigger away capacity than necessary would be counterproductive in that respect.

Re: Retained List
Shirley the more away fans, the more money we make in our bid for EFL survival which we achieved again by the skin of our teeth. We should be prepared to adapt to accommodate more income generation when the opportunity arises especially as there has already been a precedent set for this. Barrow AFC is a business after all and if that business ultimately fails then what? I think Holker Street has been a great place to be this season despite the drab football of Mark Cooper and it was encouraging to see so many youngsters about. Whether it is intimidating or not is neither here nor there but the support has been excellent (home and away) despite the handicap of a manager who towards the end wanted us to lose for his own ends.chipmunx wrote: ↑Sun May 15, 2022 12:41 pm

Tranmere and Port Vale sold out - Oldham sold 3/4 of what they were allocated, Just checked back and there were 5 teams out of 23 that sold all their allocation. Bristol Rovers didn't even manage 300, Mansfield 358 and Swindon had 50ish unsold tickets.M6 BLUE wrote: ↑Sun May 15, 2022 2:01 pmWell if that's correct that surprises me How many did Oldham Port Vale and Tranmere for instance bring then ? Well in that case either you.ve been very unlucky about how the games have fallen as past experience tells me all those 3 are capable of bringing 1k plus so maybe the reputation of whats on offer is having an effect and combined with a low capacity and the need to go thru the rigmarole of buying a ticket in advance [ which then makes applying a pain in the arse if you're not on a priority list] against it being advertised as just turn up [ as it is at Accy except for the likes of Sunderland and Sheff Weds.] is.chipmunx wrote: ↑Sun May 15, 2022 2:16 pmTranmere and Port Vale sold out - Oldham sold 3/4 of what they were allocated, Just checked back and there were 5 teams out of 23 that sold all their allocation. As ground that very few will have visited the club should be milking it as Accy did.

Not that this is important, but it seems to me that M6Blue (when he tiresomely mentions a previous incarnation) had a moniker of "Northernsoul". His use of square brackets and erroneous choice of punctuation appears to give him away. Those things, and being a self inflated awkward b*****er as well. Humble pie to be eaten if I'm wrong.
