Starting 11 for next season

Post by FanzoneFan » Tue May 24, 2022 2:12 pm

Ok - a bit of off season downtime so a question for you all - let’s suppose you’re the Manager and you’ve got to pick a starting eleven from the players currently on the books for next season. Who would you go for ? To get the ball rolling I’d have Ollie Banks at right fullback and my side would be

Farman

Banks Canavan Grayson

Hutton Gotts White Brough

Rooney

Zanzala Stevens

Subs
Kay
Gordon
Brown
James
Ellis
Lillis

Just shows how many players are on long contracts, don`t need any new signings that squad should hopefully finish 22nd.

No need for a manager, or director of football to sign players. We have enough to carry on with 2022-23 season. So long as they keep themselves fit and turn up on a saturday

True. The only interesting thing about the thread (and perhaps it’s true purpose) was to illustrate that we could put out a full 11 and a pretty reasonable bench with what we’ve retained. Can’t remember when that last happened.

^ what they said. The squad needs an overhaul and contracted players who aren’t in the plans need to be told to try and find other clubs. More of the same with these players, regardless of who’s the Manager.

The current problem, on this point, is that we are rudderless. Iain Wood, and the owners, might agree about some movement in or out, but that may not suit the plans/ideas of the incumbent manager. If by chance any player acquisitions or departures suit whoever we end up with, all well and good, though to be honest I can’t see anything meaningful happening until we have a first team manager signed up, essentially to call the final shots on recruitment/retention. Pretty quickly as well, to have a functioning outfit come the end of July.

You can’t force players to leave who are under contract. The chances of a club wanting a player from a club who finished third from bottom in efl2 and the player commanding the same or similar wage at another EFL club are slim IMO.

Think there is a place for Banks, White and Stevens still (all semi regular, not guaranteed starters) .. If Banks is to play with Rooney, maybe he will have to play more of a holding role and allow Rooney to be the playmaker.

Aware of this on all points you make. We do need more than a few tweaks though, but if we cant move players on and free up the budget to bring others in then it will be another tough season ahead no matter who is in charge
