Perhaps that defeat will make the player's re - focus, sometimes complacency creeps in and you start to believe the hype ( just read some of the embarrassing tweets we put out sometimes cringeworthy at best ).

Co-commentator Mick Payne praised the referee for it. There was, apparently, blatant time-wasting and spoiling tactics by Northampton.

Well I think the ref got that spot on, horrible time wasting tactics towards the end - we do it as well and it’s just embarrassing to watch. Well done to the ref.

Definitely second best today, one of those games where we literally never got going. That’s a couple of times this season we’ve let the opposition score early after the break and it is quite disappointing.

We’ve set some high standards this season - and the trouble with that is we feel disappointed when a performance like that is put in.

Nobody wastes more time than Paul Farman IMHO, and the time we take to celebrate a goal is ridiculous, so we aren't in a great position to criticise others!

Thought we lacked something today, our service from out wide wasn’t anywhere near previous games. We played a team that seemed to get the rub of the green and the benefit of the ref. Their time wasting tactics were some of the best I’ve seen for years, however that shouldn’t take away the fact we were beaten by the better side today. Three soft goals especially the two in the second half. Back to the drawing board as I know Pete and the team won’t be happy with the way things went today. First bump in the road and boy did we feel it!

Some really predictable comments on here after today. Interesting if some of them actually went to the game. I'm only really interested in the views of those who went. Was going to go today but a last minute change meant I couldn't get there so am not to despondent I didn't make the 2 ½ hour or so trip down for me!

However, what it does tell us we cannot drop our levels for one minute in this league or this will happen. Northampton (forget the time wasting dirtiness etc...) are a good team in this league and we need to continue to keep our levels high.

Colchester will be an interesting game next week as we are expected to win it.

Northampton were unlucky not to get promoted last season. They are tipped as one of the favourites to go up this season. They did a good job on us today and look a decent side the like of we won’t come up against every week. We dust ourselves down get a full weeks training under our belts then go again next week

Paid to watch this game today whilst I am on holiday in Portugal.I don,t know why I bothered because apart from a few bright minutes at the start,when we should have scored two goals,we were well off the pace.The passing was very wayward,not how we are used to see the team play under Pete Wild.In the second half they.made two very basic errors to alow them to score twice in quick succession and for the rest of the game Northampton fouled and bullied our team into submission and the referee let them get away with it eventually losing control of the whole game.
Hopefully this was the bump.in.the road that Pete Wild talked about and normal service will be resumed at Holker St next Saturday.

We traditionally do not do well against teams at the bottom of the league. So let's break the mould and give Colchester a hammering. Cheer everyone up after a poor result today

Mick Payne was pretty critical of the two goals we conceded straight after half time. If there's one slight worry I have it's that we've conceded some pretty poor goals so far this season, but fortunately most of the time we've scored two or three to get the win.

Sorry to sound negative but to be accurate he said there will be bumps in the road (plural). If we can get back to normal service on Saturday and then Tuesday - as I'm sure we will - look out the rest of the league.

We have had a brilliant start and what the team has achieved so far should be celebrated, because let's face it, nobody expected it.

Get back that confidence lads and we're set for the good times to return.

Northampton at home was always going to be a real challenge. They have had a settled side for a while and have the best striker in the division.

Couldn’t get there today but the facts sort of speak for themselves. Conceding early to the best striker in the division. Conceding twice in the first few minutes of the second. And against a side that does have genuine automatic promotion aspirations.

How we played the rest of the game may be disappointing but in a sense it’s not that relevant because you won’t take points making such basic errors.

They stifled our midfield which stopped any decent supply to Kay and Whitfield - they won almost every 2nd ball and pressed us into mistakes. Ref missed from where I was 4 yds away a blatant pen on Gotts.
Fair play to them, they did a number on us. Food for thought for Wild and Temple - part of the journey.
