Doncaster's last FL visit to Holker Street

We played them in the Conference in 1998-99, but their last visit for a Football League match was on 8th January 1972.

Pretty sure Neville Southall was in goals for them in 98, Tuesday night game at the start of the season

Yes, he was, and I remember him making one hell of a save to keep Niel Morton from finding the back of the net.

Does anyone know what year the place the referee came from was dropped? I always liked the quaint idea that the officials would only be biased in favour of their hometown team.

That has prompted me to look through some more old programmes, though can't find a definitive answer - I got out of the habit of buying them regularly when we went out of the League. However I did find another match that I attended featuring Mr McNally - the final Division 2 game of the 1973-74 season, between Orient and Aston Villa. Orient needed a win to get promotion to Division 1, but the match ended 1-1, which gave our friends from Carlisle their one and only year in the top flight.

Yes, he's one that doesn't stick in my memory, unlike many of the other players of those days. Apparently he played 18 games for us that season without scoring.

He was terrible. That 11 should have Morrin in for McKay. Would then be a classic BAFC side

He'd completely fill the goal these days. Have you seen the size of him now.

I was at this game and remember it for 2 reasons in particular, the first was Doncaster's awful away kit.
The second, much more significantly regarding the ground, was that the old Steelworks End roof had been removed (or a major section of it) prior to the demolition of that fine terrace.
Personally I've loathed that debacle of a building that replaced the old 'away end' ever since!
