Re: Barrow v Doncaster Rovers match thread
Fantastic performance by the Bluebirds tonight.Thankfully normal service was resumed after the last game.It was hard to pick a man of the match tonight and the whole team played like a well oiled machine. You can gradually see Pete Wild's plan gradually coming together and I am glad the club has offered him and his assistant a longer comtract as it gives him a chance to make a real difference to Barrow AFC and lay down solid roots for the future so we never again have to face the prospect of relegation.
Onwards and upwards, let,s see if we can win the league.

Re: Barrow v Doncaster Rovers match thread
I forgot we had Richie Bennett! To be honest, he will have to earn his place in this team. They are scarily fast on the break.
As someone said above, the fitness levels are impressive. The first 10 minutes had me worried but the second half was just amazing - only one team was going to score in that last 20 minutes. The ref improved as the game went on - I think they conned him a few times in the first half but he got wise to them. Tomlin’s booking was a good moment. As always, I look at their forum - very complimentary about our team, manager and style of play. Even they say 5-0 wouldn’t have flattered us.
Some people knock Barrow for all sorts of reasons, but I have come up from Derbyshire today, enjoyed the wonderful drive once you leave the M6 (don’t moan about it, it’s one of the most scenic A roads in England), had an afternoon on the Coniston fells looking down towards Barrow, and then seen my team demolish Doncaster Rovers, who probably thought League 2 would be easy. You don’t get much better days ….

Re: Barrow v Doncaster Rovers match thread
Still struggling to get over that second half…at times it seemed like we had two or three more players on the pitch. In the last couple of seasons we’d have pinched that first goal and tried to defend the rest of the game, not this team though….and that second goal, as good a passing move in the lead up as you’d see anywhere this week.
Whitfield, what were Stockport & Challinor thinking….? From that first game he’s been outstanding.
What an absolute pleasure it is to watch!

We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Been on Doncaster`s fans forum high praise for how we played, not one moan about the ground just praise for the players, can`t believe the pace we played at, we will shock a lot more teams playing like that.

But why is it disgusting behaviour that a female steward searched a 14 yo boy, would you prefer it be a male steward?
If it was one of the hoodlums who spend most of the game flipping the bird at the perspex screen, then it’s a worthwhile search.
Where did the smoke canister come from? Stewards searched well didn’t they.

I wasn`t searched on entering the ground, I had mine under my hat waiting for Barrow to score a third goal so didn`t have to use it, might take it to Craven Park on Sunday, looking forward to the Orient game for more incidents at the ground. Hope Marcus Rashford doesn`t complain about been chased by about 20/30 little kids while leaving the ground.

Fantastic all round & those last 10 mins were the best I’ve seen us play in forever, 4 home win on the spin = Fortress
Another clean sheet & Management duo signing longer improved contracts is the best news of the day for me

That has got to be one of my happiest journeys back down the A590 - even in the pitch dark save for a very bright moon. I've gone back down that road (and the M6) many times either totally despondent or just relieved we scrambled something from a game but tonight the journey just flew by.
Agree first 20 mins we seemed to defend as they passed it around but those last 15 mins of the first half was one of the best passages of play I've seen from a Barrow team in years(and that includes the 2020 season). Yes the second half was great but it was the way we took control that was so impressive. I was also impressed with Barrow's discipline in the face of some very theatrical Doncaster diving. Well what do you expect from a bunch of Yorkists.
Be interesting to see what happens when Bennett is fit as I agree we did need an out and out finisher at times - but I'm not complaining mind you. Also non of our midfielders have scored yet (unless you count Rooney's "goal" at Sutton). Warren is a free scoring full back! Lets hope we can keep Whitfield fit and here all season.
Finally I smiled when I went home via the town centre tonight seeing the Town Hall clock with a purple background and the same colour was lighting up the Hoad. I'm no royalist but that was a nice touch. I also have been told the Queens final flight back to London today took her over Lake Windermere and down through Lancashire - Gods county. Barrow repaid her with a right royal performance tonight.

Was with my relative from Doncaster, but was born and brought up here. He has supported Doncaster for 30 years, but said we deserved to win 5-0 at least. He was well impressed with the style of play, fitness work rate. We’ve got something special here. He’s converted back to us and remembers the old promotion days and followed the team at Holker St. with his dad.

So many improved versions of players from last season, Canavan looks quality all of a sudden. Josh Kay and Gordon look like new upgraded signings.
Everytime Whitfield gets the ball you feel something will happen, it's edge of your seat stuff with him. Stockport must be absolutely kicking themselves.

Class all round last night.
Feels unfair to pick anyone out but the amount of interceptions that Neal made deserves a shout.
