Burnley have apologised for the "unacceptable behaviour" of some of their fans in the win at Sunderland.

Saturday's match was briefly halted in the first half because missiles were being thrown from the upper tier of the stand housing Burnley supporters.

It is understood an eight-year-old was injured.

The Clarets said an investigation into the incident is ongoing and "anyone caught throwing objects will be liable to a banning order".

"The club will not let the actions of any individuals spoil, affect, or jeopardise the enjoyment of all our supporters, who have been magnificent all season," Burnley added.

"We offer our sincere apologies to Sunderland Football Club and to any supporters who may have been affected by this on the weekend."

Well maybe if clubs like Sunderland and Newcastle treat away fans better and didn't force them to sit hundreds of feet up in the air where the perspective view of the players on the pitch is atrocious and awful value for money those away fans might just be encouraged to behave a little better. Sunderland is a complete and utter joke the upper tier was an afterthought, added on at a later date where to access the allocated seats you have to climb 12 flights of stairs with not a single lift [ how the hell did they get planning permission for that ] and would you believe that used to include the disabled fans [ that only changed when the disabled section of the FSA threatened to sue them ] They use those seats for the away fans because they know the home fans wouldn't pay full money to sit in them.
