I guess Pete Wild was watching the lads from the stands to get a different view of things for this match, leaving Adam Temple in charge.
Whatever the reason, it was nice to see Pete chatting with fans and the kids in attendance. Very likeable fella, stopping to chat to people on his way to the stand. Comes across as very humble and very personable. Some may say being a nice guy isn't a requirement to be a good manager but I say it's good to be both. Those kids will remember that and hopefully keep coming back.
Also shows that his talk of connecting with fans and having a good attitude at the club wasn't just football speak. Well done Pete

I’m chortling at the thought of grown men & women raging because they left it too late to gain entry into a match vs Everton U18s

As I said, damned if you do... they probably expected no one to show up, hence inviting the schools. If the club had staffed this as a normal league game and the stands were empty, certain elements of the fan base would've jumped on them for wasting money on a "friendly".
I think they did well to accommodate people by opening up the away end.
I think the only criticism could be not communicating earlier that it was limited attendance, but aside from that, common sense was used on the day.

No one would've batted an eyelid if this had been played behind closed doors, even on our own training ground or another suitable space close by. Let the focus be that a large number of school children have thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon out and have hopefully been enticed to come back as fans of the future, and not that one or two people were inconvenienced by missing the first ten minutes of something that's worth a lot less than a Papa John's game. Let's be honest you got in at the end of the day.

Full marks to the club on this one - a great way of attracting some new younger fans. A hell of a lot better than playing it behind closed doors - what would have been the point of that- it’s a Cup competition with a great history and games should be watched by crowds.

I remember - at least I think I do - being in the ground when a big crowed saw Barrow beaten 1-0 by Burnley in the Lancashire Cup Final (around 1950) and Albert Cheeseborough scored the winning goal. Or maybe not?

I was too young in 1950, but I do remember Barrow 0 Burnley 4 in the Lancs Senior Cup Final on 16th May 1966. I have a picture in my scrapbook of Pilkington having a shot saved by Burnley keeper Adam Blacklaw.

It was said at the time (I have no way for checking the composition) that Burnley, unlike other First and Second Division teams, who ended to play the Reserve outfit in the competition, were under instruction of the Burnley butcher Bob Lord* to play the first team in the LSC with the intention of winning it. They did so in 7 out of 12 completed competitions from 1960 to 1972 and have only won it once since.

*not a worrying nickname; Burnley's chairman sold meat for a living.

On the same page is the final league table, with Barrow in mid table on 47 points, with Rochdlae, Lincoln, Bradford City and Wrexham having to apply for re-election. At the other end, Doncaster, Darlington, Torquay and Colchester were promoted.

Was the 1966 final the one where Burnley fielded the full first team after they were selected as a punishment following a hammering in the First Division (prem) in their previous game ?

Yes that was the 66-67 season we lost 3-2

Really good initiative to get the kids in. All seemed to enjoy it and hopefully will be back with their parents at some point or in a few years time.

Poor communication from the club, I saw the communication but arriving at 12:50 with no facilities open in the ground should be early enough to get you in.
Response from stewards was poor- computer says no. No radioing to the club to ask can we fix this what can we do etc/ just a no it’s not our fault we can only do what we are told, true but you can also look to find a solution.

Someone from the club comes down- not sure who it was a few minutes after kick off and states this is the first he knew of the issue and found a solution quickly with stewards then saying I’d been saying to do this along.

Good performance, good to see Bennett score hopefully they come like buses now

Ridiculous handling by the club,letting coaches from all over full of kids ,who they dont normally want unless accompanied by an adultà,in when hundreds of season ticket holders and regular fans cant get inas well as the barrovian toffee fans.yes i can understand the steward issue,but loyal fans cant get in shambles!

I agree. I'm not knocking the kids who attended just the club. I thought the banning order was still in place? No under 15s (unless accompanied by an adult). So, what happened? Has the banning order (hopefully) been scrapped?

Its an EFL recommendation, not the Lancashire FA. Besides which, I think it's common sense to assume 6/700 primary school kids accompanied by teaching staff aren't going to be throwing fireworks or kicking off in any way at what is essentially an open training game against kids.
Perhaps write to the EFL and ask why they and most clubs in the EFL apply this rule? Its Specifically stated on the Bradford tickets for next week as well. Are they also wrong? We were one of the few who didn't until circumstances put the eyes of the authorities on us.

See it for what it is. A good workout for the players and a great way to get the next generation of fans onboard. Some of us got to watch some football that would, ordinarily, have been played behind closed doors.

ffs give it a rest ,they were there with their teachers ,leave point scoring to others , people on here should sometimes think the club are trying to attract kids to our club and didn't they explain guidelines surrounding under 15's at the recent meeting ?
