Is Gotts totally unsuited then?
Going off his performances last season, I would say Yes.
Shame the manager gave a new contract to a player that doesn’t fit our system. What was he thinking?

Yes please
Good player, good footballer, small playmaker with good technique. Totally unsuitable for how we play. I think Wild will be looking for a tall athletic midfielder who can head it forwards and win second balls.
Is he not a defensive midfielder not a play maker?

I guess so, I just reckon Wild’s first choice will be to get Neal back again or if not someone similar to him. We don’t play through midfield do we.

I thought we used the loan market very well last season. Basically Neal and McClelland were both regulars. I think that’s what Pete Wild said at the start of last season if you’re going to get a season long loan it benefits everyone, especially the club who are loaning the players out, if their players get game time. I would think Chelsea and Sheffield United will both think they can trust Barrow to use their younger players if they loan us anymore in the future.

In my view playing through midfield will have to become another option for the team to take another step forward. This season White, Neal, Gotts & Foley all made big contributions - especially out of possession - but between them they scored one goal & contributed only four assists. Compare that to the exploits of Moxon, Guy & Mellish (even if one of his goals was about 3 yards offside!) for our friends up the road!

Last season we worked to win it back in midfield but rarely played it from the back through midfield. It was key to us finishing top half with the depth of the squad and players we had.
Most assists came from wide and I don’t remember too many through balls from centre midfield putting Gordon / waters in one on one.
Soon as we start trying to play it out the back and through midfield we’ll be into the hands of the high press teams and get turned over. More of the same next season and if we can get a one touch striker we can progress. Same system, better executed.
"To achieve anything and to get to the Football League, we have to expect to win every game. I've got to get everyone believing that we can, and I will work hard to embed that mentality into the players, the town, the board and whoever else” Ian Evatt.

We’ve got some good footballers in wide areas, we could do with signing a midfielder who isn’t concerned with getting on the ball, but is more concerned with getting in the box and on the end of the crosses, a Billy Gilmour type player (not the Brighton one) if there’s one out there.

So playing through midfield isn’t an option nowadays in case possession is lost!? 😏 Wild has his system and it works with the right personnel, but more goal involvement / chance creation contributions from the midfield would add another dimension. The ball doesn’t have to be played through midfield for a midfielder to score!

Good shout. Salfords players' player of the year in 2021-2022 but has been a victim of their formation change this Season, tried to fit in the right side of a back 3 but he's a holding Midfielder really. Bolton based so fairly local to the new training facility.

Surely even the most staunch “bring back ex players only” forumite won’t want Devitt back

I’d set fire to my season ticket if we resigned breadstick legs
